Something Blue

Hi All!

The search is on for the much talked about something blue! I did a search on the web but the only thing that came up was your usual blue under garments, shoes, and that book called Something Blue (though I think I might buy that !). I was hoping you girls would have some creative suggestions on things your going to use/wear or have seen used/worn for that something blue! Thanks! xoxo

Re: Something Blue

  • I know what you mean. I didn't want to wear the typical blue garter either. My earrings have blue in them. There's a pic on my bio under the attire page.

  • I wore "bride" panties with a blue bow from Frederick's of Hollywood. I also had a blue bow on my tossing garter.

It can be anything. You can sew a blue label into one of your undergarments or dress, put blue rhinestones in your new initials on the bottoms of your shoes, carry a blue purse, have a blue crinoline. The possibilities are endless. And remember, this is just a tradition, nothing that you are required to follow. It is more of a superstition and I am not a superstitious person, so I didn't stress too much over them, they just sort of happened.
  • I love seeing blue in the form of sapphire or blue topaz jewelry! I wore a blue topaz bracelet myself. The blue was really pale, but pretty. My "bride" undies also had a blue bow on them, but I wanted to go for something visible.

We're also seeing a lot of brides in blue shoes lately. And keep in mind, your blue doesn't necessarily need to be on your attire--you could always use blue on your bouquet wrap or in the bouquet itself.
  • I went with shoes, but I think the bouquet is a great place to hide your something blue.  You can wrap it with blue ribbon, fabric, or beads, pin a blue brooch to the bouquet wrapper, or stick something in amongst the flowers.

I have a bookmark I thought about inserting in with the flowers.  It looks similar to this: http://www.amazon.com/Glass-Beaded-Metal-Hook-Bookmark/dp/B002C0T0D4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=office-products&qid=1282737579&sr=8-3

If you want to do attire but think garter or shoes are cliche, what about blue stockings?

  • Blue was my main wedding color, so I had it in my bouquet, shoes, and hairpiece.

  • I just found a vintage-looking brooch with very light blue stones in it and I'm going to pin it to my bouquet.  Our colors are ivory and green, so I didn't want something that was going to scream BLUE, and this is a nice, subtle touch for me.

  • I've offered to loan DD a blue sapphire ring that my dad gave my mom. Both my parents are gone and we'll really be missing them that day, they loved my DD so much.  I think she will either tie it to her bouquet or pin it inside her dress.

That would be old, borrowed, and blue all in one.
  • I wore a blue underwear with swarowski crystals that said I DO.
    Always One Happy Bride!
  • A few months ago I read about this really neat idea where the bridesmaids all sign the bottom of the bride's shoes in blue ink with their good wishes for the bride and groom (see pic below).

  • i'll be wearing "light blue" by Dolce & Gabanna perfume :)

i might also wear blue underwear, if i can find a cute pair in a light blue color.
  • I'm sewing light blue tulle into my crinoline. I really liked the idea of having a coloured crinoline but couldn't bring myself to dye it for fear of it bleeding onto the dress. So the tulle is a great alternative.  Blue isn't really a colour we were going to use yet but it's growing on me as an accent colour since buying the tulle.

  • We went on Etsy and searched for vintage brooches with blue stones and found this pair.  She's saving them for her eventual children!  They were pinned inside her dress.

My baby girl is a married woman...and now my baby girl HAS a baby girl. Time unfolds in such an amazing way. I've been blessed!
  • i picked up the something blue glass heart from dogeared jewelry.
