Will my shoes go with my dress? Please read

I had my wedding dress altered in 2 1/2 inch heels. I went yesterday to David's Bridal to buy shoes and told the girl I had my dress altered in that size heel. I did not buy my dress or have it altered at David's Bridal. She went to ask their alteration lady if I could wear a bigger heel. She came back and said I could go up an inch higher which of course would be 3.5 inches. So she measured a shoe that I liked and said it was 3.5 in. I came home looked on their website and the heel is actually 4 inches. My dress is still at the place I bought it from because they steam it before my bridal pictures and before the wedding so it was easier to just leave it. Does anyone know if they will work? I know I am going to have to go and try them on with the dress but has anyone else done this before? Had your dress altered in a differnt size heel than what you wore? My dress has a very long train so I am hoping they will work! Thanks so much ladies :)

  • Buy shoes that you can return! Check a few pairs. I would try them with the dress and not depend on guessing. See what works best and return the rest.
  • i completely ditto PP. also there are so many online sites like zappos.com and endless.com that you can search by heel size to try and find something you like and the shoes ship free and come in 1-2 days so you would know very soon. even if you go with a higher heel and it works with your dress, you might not be comfortable in that high of a heel, so you should definitely try a few pairs and see how you feel in them and how they look with the dress. good luck!

  • That is why it is best to have your dress altered in the shoes that you are actually going to wear on your wedding day.

I would buy a couple of different places like DSW or Zappos (make sure you can return the unwanted ones) and try them on with your dress.

  • I had on 2.5" platforms with my dress when I had it altered at David's, and she initially marked the hem of the dress just above the platform (1" in front). I'd been expecting NOT to have the shoes show, so I asked her to lower the hem, which she did about half an inch. I just picked it up this week, and when I walk my toes and the front of the shoe show. Nothing shows when I just stand though. I also think I could probably get away with a slightly lower (non platform) heel with its current hem.

I would think that if you had the dress altered in a 2.5" heel, and try it on with a 4" heel, you won't like the way it looks. The gap to the floor will be pretty big.
