Shopping for a wedding dress

I haven't begun shopping for a wedding dress since the wedding isn't for another year, but I have some questions as to how the whole process works.

What happens if a store doesn't carry your size? I know they can order a dress, but I don't want to be committed to something that I don't know will look good on me. I guess what I'm trying to ask is, is there some sort of fee attached for them to order a dress for you to try on? I wouldn't have to buy the dress in order for them to order it for me to try on, right? Can they send dresses back if you don't like them, or do they just keep them in the store? The reason I ask is that I have a large rib cage which requires a larger dress size which some stores may not carry.

  • Yes, buying a dress in department stores has the disadvantages in limited choices for styles, size and color. I also spend much time to find my loved dress in these stores but failed. Lastly, I was adviced to buy my dress online in trustedeal.com where offer me free custom-made service in any size and color. Besides, the price is also so cheap. When the dress was arrived, it suits me perfectly.

  • Yes. Wedding dresses are cut to order, so if you decide not to buy a gown that you order, the shop might not be able to sell it to another bride. They will usually keep your deposit, but some contracts may require you to pay in full even if you're not happy with the dress that arrives.

What will happen when you go shopping: sample size gowns usually range from size 6-10, but many stores carry larger samples too. If a gown is not large enough to fit you, the shop will clip the gown onto your bra so that you can see what the silhouette looks like when the gown fits snugly to you. The front of the dress winds up looking pretty much like a dress in your size would. Of course, the process isn't perfect, but it's kind of the best you can do if the store does not have a sample in your size.
