Oncewed.com

I found a dress on here in their used wedding dress section. It is a dress I have admired since I began looking for a dress, it was just WAY out of my price. I was looking on oncewed.com last night and I found the dress there in my exact size. The seller says she bought it thinking her dress wasn't going to get there in time, so it is new with tags. She is selling for what is in my budget (granted, right at the top of it!). I am going out of town next week to try another dress that I have major interest in, but while I'm there I'm going to try this dress on as well to make sure that I actually like it on me as much as i love the photos.

Has anyone ever used this site or heard anything positive or negative? I've emailed the seller and she seems legit (i.e. was able to give some detailed information, didn't have a bizarre email address-just run of the mill gmail with her name, etc.). She accepts paypal or cash only. I am in TN and she is located in California, so obviously paypal is the only option and retrieving it in person is likely not an option either.  It just makes me super nervous to buy a dress online like that, even though I know people do it all the time!

Re: Oncewed.com

  • Everyone's experiences with oncewed are going to vary, because it's basically an online classifieds service. The site itself has no policies to protect either you or the seller.

I would absolutely use Paypal since it has buyer protection (though you should check their rules to make sure that applies to this situation), and ask her to use tracking so that you'll be notified when she pays for shipping and when the dress is about to arrive.
  • I haven't. But, I had a friend that did and had a good experience. She got what she thought she was going to get and when she was supposed to all that.  But, as the pp says, pay attention and be safe!

Definitely use paypal!  Have you looked on Ebay for your dress?  They do offer more buyer protections than sites like oncewed or craigslist.  But make sure the seller communicates with you, gives tracking info for shipping, etc.  Also, some credit card companies offer protection plans for purchases, if you'll be using a credit card through paypal, look into their terms and policies too.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks, guys! I know if I use my noggin and really pay attention, I should hopefully have a positive experience. It is just a little unnerving when it involves that much money and something as important as a wedding dress!
