Bridesmaid Dresses? Color or Black?

I'm doing a combo of Cranberry/Maroon/Lavendar for my wedding colors. I am debating between two options:

1. Having my MOH wear Maroon and the Bridesmaids wear Cranberry floor length
2. Just letting the entire BP wear black floor length dresses (wear again maybe...)

I'm thinking that my flowers will really pop better against the black dresses and in pictures the wedding party will look really good all in black? My Aunt is a florist and is really going above and beyond for flowers so they're going to be amazing.

Opinions?

Re: Bridesmaid Dresses? Color or Black?

  • I did black for my bridesmaids and they looked fantastic! So classy and I know I will never feel like their dresses look dated when I look back at the photos. I did the black dresses and some very simple pearl necklaces-each with their intials on them (GORGEOUS BTW) and they looked perfect! Definitely recommend!!
  • I'm definitely leaning more towards the black idea now, especially if some BM will feel like they can wear again or not become so dated like you said...good point about that.
  • I love black for a wedding party.. I think it looks very chic and classy... If you are game for either/or though, maybe ask your WP to see what their thoughts are on the topic.
  • Black dresses look great in an evening wedding in a ballroom.

Black dresses do not look great in a midday wedding in a garden.

What is the setting of your wedding?
  • my colors are burgundy, black and ivory -- i went back and forth between burgundy and black dresses for my girls.  FI hit it right on the head with his comment "if the girls are in black, then the only 'bridal party' color will be on the guys vests hidden by their coats. everythnig else will be black"

i wanted to make sure we had burgundy represented, so i went with the color dresses. for flowers, the girls and i both have a mix of burgundy and ivory/white to tie us all together.  also, my wedding is formal, but mid-august, so shorter burgundy dresses lightened the look a bit.

if it were me, i'd have your girls in cranberry or maroon (with the guys to match).  flowers would be lavendar and ivory/white with maybe a few cranberries as accents.

<div>agreed! </div><div>Also i have been a bm twice and once i wore esspresso and once was black. while both dresses are wearable again the black i can only wear to black tie events because it's long and somewhat formal looking. i feel like if you want them to be able to wear again a color will be wearable. i also love wearing colors so neither of the dresses are ones i would wear for fun because of that. just my opinion!</div>
  • The wedding is afternoon in my Church, the reception is inside at a vineyard...It will be formal enough to wear black. I forgot that detail
  • another thought is you might want to take into consideration the decore of the venue as well. if it's very colorful then black would off set that. but if it's pretty basic then color on the bm's dresses might enhance it!
