dress shopping

my daughter will be married next summer and has a gorgeous figure and is petite.  I can't wait to go shopping with her.  what are some tips on how to make it a fun time, .  I need help in how to be supportive and not too opinionated. I have definite ideas (sick of strapless) but don't want to be a pain in the neck about it....suggestions?  also suggestions for stores in the boston area with a wide selection and a good vibe? sales women to look for?

Re: dress shopping

  • Just try to remember that this is your daughter's dress and she needs to like it above all else. Don't form a strong opinion on it until you hear what she has to say about it. She may love strapless dresses and if you shot every single one down, she may not find a dress and resent going shopping with you.

Try to have fun and relax and take it all in. If you want tips on shops in Boston, trying reposting this on their local board. The ladies from that area will be able to help a lot more:

  • The fact that you're thinking about how to make it a fun time shows you've already taken a step in the right direction.  I agree with the previous poster that you should wait to withhold your opinion until you hear what your daughter says.  It's good to express your opinion, but not too strongly.  Also, instead of focusing on your vision for her, try to think of it as what looks good on her.  She might look beautiful in something that doesn't agree with your vision, but if she likes it, she should feel supported in getting it.

I don't know what your price point for dresses is, but if you're in Boston, why not Priscilla of Boston?  I love their dresses!  That's where I bought mine with my mom.  I am petite, but I found an A-line/ballgown that looked great on me.
