Got my dress! It is small, anyone have experience with letting dresses out!?

I got my dress used, and SWORE that when I tried it on at the salon it was a 6 and big, so I got an 8.  I tried it on and it is pretty tight in the ribs. I have no weight to lose there either. I could zip it fine though.

Anyone know if this dress can be taken out (David's Bridal t9612)
I've read that with lace like this they don't leave any room to let it out...
I've also considered getting the zipper shortened so that the V is deeper in the back, giving me more room.
I do NOT want a corset back. :/

  • DItto Duds. When I tried on dresses I made note of the sizes I was trying on and it was pretty clear that older samples were looser than a newer dress that was the same size or sometimes one size up.

I also like the idea of lowering the V in the back of the dress.

  • I looked at a lace gown at David's ... and the consultant there told me that they always have at least 1/2 inch on each side to let out, certain styles have more.
  • I just tried it on again, and tried leaving it unzipped. The only problem then is there is nothing to hold the band under my bust snug then... even if they sewed it.
I looked around by the zipper and I saw about an inch of fabric on each side. I think she may have gotten it taken in some and not mentioned it in the classified!

I'll see what a seamstress says.
    Thanks guys!

I'm sure there's something they can do - I actually just got home from my first appointment with a seamstress and had totally worked myself into a panic because my dress didn't fit.

She had several suggestions - the first thing she is going to try is replacing the "invisible" zipper with a plain flat one - she said becuase it almost fits that the difference in  zippers should be enough.  If that doesn't work she's going to sew in cups so I won't have to wear a longline bra, apparently the boning adds a significant amount (she said nearly 1/4" EACH which was very suprising to me).  Next she'd try letting it out a tiny amount at each seam.  If that doesn't work she said we can convert it to a corset back (my last choice) and put a panel behind the lacing.

    Good luck!
  • My seamstress was able to let my dress out at the seams so now it fits.
