Uncommon alteration question

At least I think this is uncommon.

My dress is a slim A-line shape and has a semi-long train. I am in love with absolutely every other aspect of the gown, but I'm not 100% happy with these two details.

I already spoke with a seamstress, and she told me there's no problem shortening the train.  My question to you ladies, and maybe you won't know, is if there is a way to slim the silhouette at all? I'll include the link for the dress.  Would it make the gown look odd to bring it in a little closer to the body? I'm thinking more of a sheath shape.

Re: Uncommon alteration question

  • I would talk to your seamstress and see what she says.  It doesn't look impossible with that gown, but she will know the fabrics better. Perhaps she can taper down the side seams of the skirt, but be aware you are getting into expensive territory with every seam you alter.   Personally, I think that dress is flattering the way it is, but I understand the look you would prefer to have with that dress.  It is a beautiful dress though.  Congrats.

  • It can, it looks like it has seams in several places where it can be taken in.

I had a similar issue with my gown: it was a size 10 and I was a 2--while my seamstress didn't change around the silouette, she had to take it in on all sides of the bodice.  It can be done.  But give yourself plenty of time for alterations.
  • I think the shape of the gown looks lovely on you.  Why would you want to change it?

  • Well, the pics aren't me, but it does more or less look the same on me as whoever that is.

It's not really a huge issue; I just see myself in a sheath and not an A-line.  But thanks for all the votes, everyone.  I guess I'll think about this some more.

  • i guess i'm just wondering why you bought an A-line if you see yourself in a sheath?

  • I know... there are really a few reasons.  I do love the rest of the gown, and it's not like I hate A-line... it's just not my favorite.  Wouldn't break my heart to leave it the way it is; I'd still be very happy.  And it was on clearance for $150 marked down from $900, so I decided it would be a pretty good financial decision, lol.

[QUOTE]cute! I'm trying to decide if FI and I should do pics w/jerseys???

DO IT! I don't regret it for a second. I think they bring a level of fun to pictures that other outfits might not have. If it were up to me they would have been Husker jerseys but that was FI's outfit that he chose.
