2 Dresses I love-HELP?????

What to do?  I have found 2 dresses I love.  They are very drastic in price difference, $500 difference.  I'm drawn to the more expensive one, it was the one I fell in love with first.  Both would be perfect for the wedding, similar style and color choices.  2 Questions:

Would you base your decision on the price?
I have found the more expensive dress online cheaper, is there anyway to negotiate with the bridal shop?

Thanks,
Amy Jo

If I loved the dresses equally ( and I mean really, truly equally) I would probably go with the cheaper of the two. But it sounds like you like the more expensive one a little bit more, so I hesitate to tell you to just get the cheaper one. Do you have pictures or links to the dresses? We like pictures. If you can afford either one, I'd say go with the more expensive one, because from your OP it sounds like you like it more. If its going to be tight to afford the more expensive one, be sure to check out per owned stores. These girls can give you more specific URLs and store names to check, but it's possible you could get the more expensive dress at a better price by going that direction.

<div>Be VERY careful buying "the same dress" online. There is a high possibility that it is from a chinese knock off site and that is VERY SCARY territory. The girls on here are usually pretty good at spotting them if you're unsure, so give us a link and we'll help you out!</div><div>
</div><div>Anyways - on to your questions. I personally would factor in price, yes, however if I could comfortably afford the extra $500 and really liked the more expensive dress better I wouldn't let the price difference stop me from getting it. However, if I was in your shoes with my current overall budget for my wedding (about 6k) I would find it very hard to resist saving that $500 for something else in the wedding. </div><div>
</div><div>You could try negotiating with the shop, it can't hurt. Did the sample dress fit you well? You could ask to buy it and usually can get a nice discount. Or you could simply say my budget is X (the cost of the less expensive dress) and this dress is Y - is there any way you can help me out? I wouldn't expect them to discount the entire $500, but you could try to get them to split the difference. </div>

Thank you ladies.  You have been very helpful.  I have found the same dress online for about $200 cheaper.  So I'm curious why it is I can get it online a bit cheaper not a lot but a bit.

Do you ladies recommend the classified sites?  If I can find it on there I might be willing to buy it through them.

The dress does not require many alterations, probably just the bust?  I can afford the additional $500, we have already saved in other areas, yet the budgetering in me sees that as another $500 saved.

    UGH,

I definitely recommened buying a pre-owned wedding dress.  The classifieds here on TK and the Trash to Treasure board on TheNest can be great resources.  Also check ebay, craigslist, and preownedweddingdresses.com.

I do not recommend buying from random internet sites that are selling brand new knock off dresses.

I liked two similar dresses that were about $1000 difference in price.  Of course, I ended up going with the cheaper of the two.

Now, I kind of regret it.  The more expensive one was the one I was truly in love with, and I could have afforded it, but now it's too late to go back.  And I keep frickin' thinking about that other dress.

So yeah, do what your heart tells you.

Buying online from a verified retailer can save you not only in the basic price, but also in sales tax, but you lose some of the personal services that might be included from the boutique.  I was originally going to buy online, but ended up going through a small boutique.  The dress I fell in love with was more than I had planned to pay, 3 times more, but I went home and did some research and they were actually less on the price than the best online price.  That being said, I was going to have to pay sales tax so that negated any savings.  However, I wanted it ordered with a different neckline and a belt that I couldn't have done via the online retailer.  You also have to make sure your measurements are correct for the order so that factors in, too.  I had to do a rush order and the online site charged double for that.  The boutique only charged me what they were charged by the designer for the rush, the belt and the change to the neckline.  They will also bustle it for free.  I will have to pay more to have it altered, but all in all, I felt it was better to go with this store than online.

In addition to finding it used, I would call around to other stores to see what their price is and see what is included in that price.
