I'm going for a simple low-cost wedding so I've been going to various thrift stores to try to find a wedding dress (this is how my sister found hers 3 years ago--for $70). I found this one for $20 and I love it! I love that it's so cheap because I don't like the idea of spending vast amounts of money on my wedding.
My cousin (recently married so steeped in wedding knowledge) and my mom both said it's pretty but too short. I'm 5'9" so I do tend to be too tall for things. You can kind of see in the picture that it ends around my ankle. I think that's totally fine (as does my fiance) but my cousin said that while some wedding dresses are ankle length, the specific style of my dress is supposed to be floor length. She and my mom suggest getting it altered: either getting it shortened to tea length or having lace added to the bottom so it's floor length.
Do you think this is necessary? I would much rather not get it altered both to save money and because I just think it's unnecessary to make my dress fit the standards of the typical dress. On the other hand, I know very little about fashion and I don't want to make a faux pas that my more fashionable guests will notice. Thoughts please?
