Puzzled over the birdcage veil: How do you wear it?!

I have a birdcage veil and I am determined to wear it, but I cannot decide how to place it on my head. The veil that I have has organza roses attached to the comb.

I plan to wear my hair in a low, loose bun, parted on the side. Should I pin the veil in the bun, and have it come forward diagonally over my head, grazing my eyebrow, OR, should I have it pinned at the crown of my head, and have it come forward to my nose?

The first  way seems more subtle, and more practical, because the veil is not in my face. The second way looks more dramatic, and more like how you're supposed to wear it. However, I am super concerned that it will become annoying and/or itchy, or obstruct my vision, or take away from my face, or just make me feel claustrophobic.

For those who have worn one...does it get annoying? How did you wear it? In or out of your face?

  • You could wear it both ways on your wedding day.  You could wear it so that the veil covers your face for the ceremony and a few pictures and then move it back, more towards your bun, for the rest of the pictures and the ceremony.

FWIW, I like birdcages when they only slightly cover the face, meaning just the eyes and/or positioned off to one side so that one eye is covered more then the other.  I am not a big fan of the birdcages the cover the entire face and chin.
