Help! confused about dress fittings

Ok, so i do know that you are supposed to start searching for your dress about 9 months before your wedding. My question is, when you find the dress, and they take your measurments, and send it in it in in to get fitted, what happends if you loose alot of weight in the time frame from your order to when it comes back? Can they resize it? Or are you not supposed to loose weight? just wondering because i dont know how much time i have to exercise!!! thanks :)

  • You should ideally not plan to lose or gain any weight between ordering your dress and your wedding.  If you think you will lose or gain weight, then try to do it before ordering your dress.  If you can't do this, then definitely search for dresses with this in mind -- some have corset backs that can be easily tightened if you lose weight (or loosened if you gain).  Any dress with intricate beading on the bodice will be difficult (and expensive) to alter either way.

Regardless, unless you're pregnant and know you will gain weight, you should order your dress in the size that are you AT THE TIME YOU ORDER.  If you lose weight, then great.  If you don't, then at least you wont' have to stress out about your dress not fitting, know what I mean?

  • Most dresses can be taken in 1-2 sizes.  So yes, you can most certainly lose weight after you purchase your wedding dress...however, if you buy your dress knowing that you want to lose 50 pounds before your wedding then you will have issues when it comes to alterations...but if you are only planning on losing 5-10-15 pounds you should be fine.

I lost about 10 pounds between ordering my dress and when I finally wore it on my wedding day.  It fit perfectly without alterations.

Order the size that fits you at the time of ordering.

I lost 15 pounds between ordering my dress and when I'll wear it next week.  Luckily it has a corset back that is easy to tighten but it also had to be taken in at the sides.  My seamstress yelled at me and told me to stop losing weight.
