Platinum versus white gold

My boyfriend and I are planning to get engaged this year. We have beautiful Tacori rings picked out already. Now, we're unsure if we should get our rings in platinum or white gold. We want our rings to stay shiny and beautiful. I've heard that white gold can turn yellow after a short time. I'm also concerned about the diamonds in my engagement ring and wedding band falling out. We can splurge on the platinum but only if it's really worth it. Please help! What are the real pros and cons?

My wedding band is Platinum and my E-ring is in Palladium.

Both have to be buffed from time to time, but they are extremely durable. Check and see if Palladium is available. Palladium is in the Platinum group of metals. It's durable, but less expensive. And you can't tell the difference in my rings.

I have heard white gold can react to different peoples skin and some have to have it redipped often, while others dont at all.

Thank you all for responding! I am concerned about how my skin will react to the different alloys in gold. I have fair Irish skin that gets red and itchy from everything, so that's another issue to weigh.
