Wedding gown cleaning/preservation

We're getting married in about 4 weeks. Yay! But I just realized that I need to figure out what to do with my dress *after* the wedding. Four days after we get married we're going abroad for our honeymoon...and won't be back for two months! I'd like to get my dress cleaned before then, so that any stains don't have time to set.

Does anyone in the NYC, upstate NY (Kingston), or southeastern PA area (Philly, West Chester...even Wilmington, DE) have any recommendations for a place to take my dress to get it cleaned and pressed (unfortunately I don't have the income to spend hundreds of dollars on professional preservation)? I've heard horror stories about dry cleaners ruining gowns, so it would be great to know what places people have used that actually did a good job. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • I used wedclean.com - $129 to clean and preserve the dress. You pay in advance and ship the dress to them, so you could pay for it before your wedding so that they send you the box. Then mail it out before your honeymoon and have it shipped back to someone else who will be home - they require a signature to sign for the dress.

But honestly, I didn't clean my dress for 6 months after the wedding and it still came out fine.

  • Thanks so much, Kristin! I checked out their website and they look great (good price, too). This was very helpful. Really appreciate it!
