1 Fitting Or 2?

I have found it very hard finding a wedding dress, so when I finally found the perfect dress, I just snagged it up and bought it off the rack. Well I had to have it altered just a little, and wanted a train added. Well in October of last year I took my dress to this lady to have it altered. The other day she called to tell me, my first fitting would be September 20th. Which would be exactly one month before my wedding day. She also told me I could pick my dress up  October 15,  FIVE DAYS BEFORE MY WEDDING. Any suggestion on what I should do? I asked about having one in May or something but she says no can do bc it wouldn't be finished. . . She only had to take in the sides, add more tulle and a train. Should it have taken her this long?

I would think May would be too soon. I do think adding a train would take some time too though...  I think I had 3 or 4 fittings, and if I remember correctly they were each a week apart and I picked up my dress 3 days before my wedding.

Ok, got ya. I just wasn't sure if 5 days was cutting it close or what, as well as not knowing how long it should take to alter a dress. I know when you order your dress it usually takes about 6 months to come in and then they do fittings and what not. Plus I wasn't sure if it was different when having it altered :)

I'm getting married in November and the only alterations I've done so far is the hem and bustle, since, as the seamstress said, "I won't be growing UP at least!"  But for having the sides taken in I'm definitely going to wait until it is closer to the wedding.  It also matters if you have a corset back or a zip/button back, since a corset can adjust with you with minor weight gain/loss.

I ended up having 3 fittings to get things perfect :)  My seamstress wouldn't even think about starting the alteration process more than 7 weeks before the wedding.  I picked up my dress three days before the wedding which is standard for my salon.

I ended up having 4 fittings to get my dress just right. I didn't pick up my dress till the day before my wedding, so five days seems like plenty of time to me. That way my dress was freshly steamed and free of wrinkles for the big day

I just had my first fitting last night.  My wedding is May 26.  They had to take in about 3" so they were going to do that and then I'm coming back in 2 weeks for them to do the hem and bustle.  They said they didn't feel that they could do the hem and bustle correctly until the dress actually stayed up on me without me holding it.  After that I will probably have 2 more fittings to make sure it fits exactly right before the wedding.

I had 2 fittings.  The first one was where she pinned the hem and the sides of the bodice and that was about 1 month before the wedding.  Then 2 weeks before I had a second fitting and I think I changed my mind and she added straps.  Then 3 days before the wedding I picked up the dress and tried it on again for good measure to make sure everything was ok.  I think it's pretty normal...
