Generally speaking, how much would it cost...

To have the bust taken in for a wedding dress?  My dress needs the bust brought it, and I'm calling alteration shops tomorrow, but if anyone has a general idea, that would be great.  I want to be sure I don't pay too much when that's the only thing that needs done...

Re: Generally speaking, how much would it cost...

  • Depends on how much it needs to be taken in and if you have beading that would need to be removed.... I would think probably $30 to $50 if its pretty simple.
  • Sorry Op there is no "generally" speaking with alterations.. people's alterations here range from 25 bucks to 500.
All you can do is go in and get a quote. If you have NO beading or anything that makes it complicated, however, it should be less than a 100 for sure
  • Mine cost $125 to take it in a few inches but I also had a lot of beading/detail. Should def. be under $100 if its simple.

  • Everything is expensive here except my alterations. I'm having some modification to the bust, a French bustle, taking it in at the waist (yay diet!), hemming, and a little center dart to make the sweetheart neckline more sweetheart-y, and it's all $100. Total. I was so relieved to hear her say that, I danced a little jig. My gown is lace over silk and a fairly detailed hem, for reference.
  • Thanks everyone : I have an appointment Monday for a fitting/quote only with a seamstress we've used before, so I can only pray at this point. Thanks for the insight!
