Veil or no veil

I am still deciding if I want to wear a veil or not, everytime I picture myself on that day I am not wearing a veil.  I am wearing my hair half up and half down and I am worried about a veil messing up my hair style etc.  Just wondering has anyone not worn a veil and then regretted it later?  I am also wearing a bold statement necklace and I am afraid a veil will be too much.... please let me know your thoughts!

Re: Veil or no veil

  • If you don't want to wear one, don't. It is your wedding and don't try to be or wear something that you are not. I wore one. My hair was all up and my veil was a elbow length one. It was high on the crown of my head for the ceremony and my MOH put in down towards the back of my head (so it draped down my back) for the reception and dancing. There are so many options out there for veils, so if you are seriously considering wearing one, I would definitely explore all of the options. If not, just don't wear one. A lot of brides are opting to not wear them.

If you're worried about the veil being too much then go with a sheer single layer or drop veil.  You can get them pretty cheap on the internet and take it with you to your hair trail and see if it messes the do up.  Also, you can just wear the veil for the ceremony and take it off afterwards.  No need for it to be on all night.

  • I'm doing a veil - mostly because it is part of the Jewish wedding ceremony/tradition.  I picked a really simple sheer and not super long veil (goes just past my elbows).  I will take it off for the reception.

It's your day, you can do what you want!  But if you think you may regret it, you could always do what I am doing and just wear it for the ceremony.
  • i know what exactly what your going through! i tried on some veils with my dress the other day, and hated every single one of them. my dress is simple, and does not need a huge veil to go with it. i'm thinking of still trying to find one, but a much smaller, thinnner one. maybe that would suit you.

  • I'm not using a veil for 3 reasons:

    1. I feel it would take away from my headpiece (see my icon)
    2. the back of my dress is by far the coolest part, and I wouldn't want to cover it up
    3. It's just not my style

I say if you're not sure, skip the veil and get an incredible hairstyle with cute hair accessories.

  • At my first wedding I wore a veil for the ceremony and took it off for the reception (I'm widowed).

One question- does FI care? I'm surprised how sometimes men really do- they really want to see you in a veil, or they just don't care one way or another.

Half up/half down with some real or vintage silk flowers in your hair would also be lovely- really, go with your gut!
  • I'm planning on wearing a pretty simple veil for the ceremony, and then removing it altogether and replacing it with a silk flower for the reception. My hairstyle is a pretty simple half up/half down style with soft waves. If you're worred about the bold necklace, you could also just add that for the reception! It's a cool, easy way to change up your look and spice things up as the night continues. Some brides go so far as to wear two different dresses (which I think is a hideous waste, haha), so mixing up your hair & clavicle are thrifty alternatives. :)
