Help! What can I do to fix my dress?

I ordered my dress online, and it is too short! It it a tulle dress with lace on the bottom. I'm worried that the crinoline will stick out further than the front of the dress! Is there anything I can do? Should I get a tulle crinoline in the same color, or would that still look weird if it showed under the lace? I love my dress.

  • Take it to a seamstress that specializes in wedding gowns. Or if it's too short with heels on, find a lower heel or wear flats.

  • I was planning on wearing flats, but think it might still be too short. I can't try it on right now because I am 9 months pregnant. D you think a seamstress could fix it?
  • It's hard to tell without seeing pictures, but they might be able to do something. Your wedding isn't until August and alterations normally start 2-3 months before the wedding so I'd wait until you've had your baby (congrats!) and then go see a seamstress.

  • If you're 9 months pregnant and can't try it on, how can you be sure it is actually too short?

But I agree with achiduck, since your alterations wouldn't need to start until May or June, I'd say wait then before doing anything drastic.  A seamstress may be able to offer a good solution.
  • A friend of mine had the same problem. A seamstress should be able to add length to the bottom with a panel of the same fabric. I would find someone that specializes in ball gowns or wedding gowns.
  • If its tulle then could you take out a layer of it so it layed a little flatter? It would make it look longer without any real drastic changes.
  • Thanks for all the ideas! I appreciate it. My friend suggested adding colored tulle under my dress, in the colors of my wedding scheme. I think I will obviously wait til I deliver my baby, and then if it's too short, I will TTY the colored tulle. I want a ball gown look, so I need a full petticoat. That's why I was worried. I thought the petticoat would pull the dress up too high.
  • I have 2 options for you:
    1. If you take out some of the layers it won't be as short.

2.There may be a seem-allowance that some of the layers can be moved down slightly. After you have the baby and you're able to try on your dress, I would take it to a seemstress (make sure it's a legit seemstress that will be able to help you, not your friend's aunt who knows how to sew).

    Best of luck to you.
