Can't try on my dream dress... what to do?

Okay, so it's all theknot.com's fault.  I was browsing through dresses on this website and I found and absolutely fell head over heels for this dress.  The more I look at it, the more I fall in love with it!  It is from the Jasmine Collection Spring 2010 F309.

Here's my problem.  No. one. has. it.
I tried everything.  I called every bridal store here, in southern California, in Baltimore, and in New York!  (I will be in all of those places in the next couple months.)

Oh, and I forgot to mention, it's in my budget!!  I thought the price was going to rule it out, but it just so happens that to order the dress, it would be $850.00.  I cannot believe it!

The difficulty is that it's from the newest line, and that's why most stores don't have it.  And, no, they do not have a "loner" to give to any stores for a deposit to try it on.  Why?  Because it's being use in shows at the moment.  :(

So that's where I'm at. I'm planning on trying on similar styles.  I know the empire waistline, a-line silhouette looks good on me.  I know I prefer that sweetheart neckline.   I can order it from a bridal salon in my area.  But it's such a huge risk.  I just don't know.

Any advice?

  • Can you see if there's any Trunk Shows near you coming up for the designer?  This is where they travel with all their new designs to different stores.  You will likely get a discount too.  Check it out.

  • Just looked up trunk shows.  No luck :(.  I'm in Nor Cal, on the west coast, and none of them are anywhere near me.
  • Boo, that stinks. I guess other than trying on similar styles and going with your gut, I have no other advice. Sorry.

Actually, have you tried calling Jasmine directly and asking them if they can tell you what stores currently carry it and if there's any way they could send one to a store.  Or is that who told you they don't have a "loner".

  • Also, when you say you called every bridal store...did you just call random stores? Or did you call the ones that are listed on their website?  They have a list of stores, by state, that carry their designs. Just in case you didn't see that.

  • I wasn't able to try my dress on before I ordered it. I tried on a tonne of similar styles, and took the risk. Mine should be here in 2 weeks and I can't wait.

It's your call, but that style is gorgeous and looks like it's fairly forgiving and would look good on many body types.
  • Thanks everyone.
Yeah, I looked on the Jasmine website and searched for stores that had their collection and I called those stores--in my area and in all the other places I'll be in the next month or two.
I'm nervous about waiting on the trunk shows because they go until April and that is definitely way too close for comfort.

But anyway, I have two appts with bridal shops today, so we'll see if a) I find a dress I like more (doubtful) or b) I can try on enough of the same style to feel comfortable ordering it.

I knew the dress I fell in love with was going to be hard to find also, I ended up driving 2 1/2 hours to try it on. But once I ordered it, it was in in 3 weeks. Because it was so new no one else had ordered it yet. So you might get lucky there.
Good Luck with your search. If your anything like me you wont feel right till you try it on to see for yourself.
P.S. that dress is absolutely stunning!

  • If you try on a similar style, make sure to try on some dresses by the same designer. I loved Jasmine from their ads, but did not like them when I tried them on. Dresses can look very different in person than in ads. Not that you shouldn't order it without trying it on, but just make sure you love the style AND other dresses by the designer- since they use similar materials in their gowns (like the same kind of lace or beading or other materials).
