Dress

Iam going to look for my dress on Saturday any advice or tips?( what i wear do i need bring anything?) Thanks Girls

Re: Dress

  • Wear appropriate skivvies!  There's a chance they'll see your panties depending on what kind of slip they have you wearing for the fitting.

I would also probably bring something to pin your hair up (a ponytail holder or something) if you are thinking you'll wear it up on the big day.  They usually have you try on a veil and headpiece if you really like a dress.
  • My advice is try on different styles even if you think you wont like them. I didnt want a ball gown at all.. I wanted more fitted.. after trying on about 8 dresses I fell in love with a ball gown...

  • I wore pj shorts and a bra under my regular clothes. The shorts were so that I wasnt standing in the changing room in a thong as the consultant was zipping or lacing me into the dress. Most consultants will ask your bra size and get the complimentary bra for the dress type.

She also got me some shoes to wear to get the whole effect. When you get close to picking they will put on the veil you like and mine even did my hair up with some quick bobby pinning and brought me some jewelry.

My only tip, only look at what you can afford so you dont fall in love, also be open to trying different styles so you know what you do and really dont like on you. Styles look different on everyone. Dont be pressured to buy if your not absolutly ready to buy. The dress will NOT discontinue in one night. You dont need to purchase until five or so months ahead so you probably have more time then they lead you to believe.

My dress was 799 when I fell in love with it. I waited four months and stalked it on Davids Bridal and eventually purchased it when it hit the 99 dollar rack!!!! Not all styles will do this as quick but I knew what I wanted and didnt need to buy it early since I was getting it off the rack. They tracked down my size and shipped it to me for 25 bucks and it was in great condition when I got it. (had to cut a couple strings but worth the savings!)

The biggest tip is get any promises in writing BEFORE you buy!!!
  • bring your own heels!  wear a strapless/nude bra.
  • -Wear modest undies and take along a strapless--bridal salons often have them but they don't fit well.

-Keep an open mind and try on everything

-Don't get discouraged, because there are tons of other dresses out there. And take breaks if you start feeling overwhelmed! If you've got multiple appointments, schedule a break in between for coffee or lunch or whatever so you go to your second appointment refocused.
  • All I have to say is don't wear a thong like I did ..... I'm sure she didn't care, and I didn't care but you may.
    haha
  • Thanks Girls For The Help I Will Let you know how it went =)
  • I wore boy short underwear when I went and still felt uncomfortable with the girl helping me. I'm not usually uncomfortable with people seeing e in underwear (you see more skin at the beach), but this is a stranger helping you change. Maybe some pj shorts would have helped.

Also wear minimal makeup so you're not worried about getting it on the dress.

And take someone you trust with you if you can. I took my aunt (who has a degree in costume design) with me, and she was able to help a lot with explaining things to me. She knew which dresses were easily altered and which would cost a fortune.

And have fun! It can be discouraging if you don't find "the one" quickly, but you will!

  • Ditto on wearing modest underwear or perhaps a bike short and a nude strapless bra.  Wear the heel height you would feel comfortable in at your wedding whether they loan you shoes or you bring your own.  Bring ONE person whose opinion you trust so you don't get confused by conflicting input.  And ditto on being open to different styles and seeing how they look with veils, belts, brooches, etc.  Good luck!
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • Always remember that the dress may look different (shape-wise)  if you order it in the correct size.  I am small, and all of the sample dresses I tried on swallowed me even though they were pinned in the back.  And I had to remember that the entire dress would have a slightly different shape on me, and more in proportion if it were the right size.
