How much is normal for hair and make-up cost for a wedding?? Should the bride pay for the bridal party??

The cost really depends on your area. Check your local board, someone there might be able to give you an idea of what hair stylists and makeup artists charge.

As for paying for the bridal party, if you are requiring them to get it done, then yes, the bride should pay for it. If you just want to give them the option, let them know your stylist charges X amount of dollars if they are interested.

  • It depends. Around here for on site hair and makeup the cost starts at around $200. I went to the salon and paid half of that.

  • Like everyone else says, it depends on location. I am in toronto & I was able to find a very good hair & makeup company that comes to location for $200 and my bridesmaids are also using the company  & they are paying $150. I looked around and that was one of the cheaper ones for the quality & the fact that they come to me.

  • I went to the salon to get my hair done.  It was only $20 I was super surprised as I was expecting to pay more than double that and it looked really good.
  • If anyone happens to know of anyone in the bay area, let me know.  I posted on my local board, but its a pretty slow board.  So, I could use all the help I can get.
  • Like PP's, the cost is dependent on a lot of variables... Where you live, what style/look you want, quality and experience of the artist, what you expect them to provide, etc.

For my particular situation, I'll probably be looking at spending around $400 for makeup (all-inclusive, so to speak) and my hair will likely be free as one of my good friends who is a hairstylist has offered to do my hair. If I paid someone to do it -- it'd probably be around $150 or so for day-of.

My photographer recommended a makeup artist who is super-high quality... But, like I mentioned in my previous post, I'm looking at spending around $400 for her services (but that'll include everything from engagement to boudoir to the wedding). I haven't personally met with her yet so I don't want to TOTALLY recommend her, but if you want the info, I'm happy to share it.

As far as hair goes -- totally depends on where you're located!
Maybe try asking your venue if they have preferred vendors? My venue provided me a massive list of services from DJs to makeup and hairstylists -- it definitely helps!

  • I paid 150 for my hair trial, 100 dollars for an "on location fee," 150 for my actual day-of style.  So....yeah, it was expensive. I did my own make up.
  • I'm in SW MI so our prices may be similar, I'm going to be paying $55 + tip for hair and $90 for airbrush makeup done on location.  If you just want normal makeup I've seen prices vary from $35-$50 + tip
  • If you have a nearby Dry Bar, they can do a blow out and any style you want for $35. I freaking love that place, going for my rehearsal dinner.
For hair and makeup for the wedding day I'm paying 140, with no travel fee since she is new to weddings and trying to build a reputation. Because she IS new, I did a trial and she was great.
  • Again, depends on location.  I shopped around here a bit and got a wide variety of prices, everything from $50 on Craigslist to $400 at a high end salon.   I ended up going with a stylist that was recommended on my local board and she was $150 for on-site hair, and it also included an in-studio trial.  She was fantastic (my sister burned a hole in her dress trying to iron it and she offered to let us cut up her pants to make a patch for it).  I now go to her for my normal cuts & color.
