Is a month enough time to get a train taken off my dress, also, est. cost?

I never really wanted a train, but my dream dress had one. I was fine with it till recently. Its going to be an outdoor wedding and I would love to have less fabric, and the way the dress is we can't bustle it without it looking very odd. I'm wanting to see if I can get it taken off, but the wedding is about a month out. Is this enough time? Also, who do y'all recomend going to, someone like Davids Bridal (where I bought the dress) or a tailer that works on there own. Also, how much do you think this would cost? Thank you! :)

I think a month is plenty of time. I would ask around your local board for recs for a good seamstress--they'll also be able to give you a better idea of the cost.

I'm having mine cut down from like chapel length to a little longer than sweep for the same reason as you.  As long as the tailor isn't super busy, a month is plenty of time.  Mine is charging $90 to cut and hem the train, lining and also hem the front.  The bustle is another $45.  She is very reasonably priced for the Boston area since she is an independent seamstress who works out of her home.  I asked at the salon and they estimated more like $150 to $200 for the cutting/hemming the train.  DB could definitely do it, but might charge more than an independent seamstress.

if you go to the place you bought the dress they me feel more compelled to make sure they get it right and if they screw up they may have more resources to make it right then a private seamstress.

You should check with Davids Bridal, it took them a month just to add the bustle to my dress..depending on how busy they are, you  may need to allow more then that possibly up to 6 weeks. But you should call them to ask.

You can have it done elsewhere likely for a little cheaper but make sure the people are familiar w/working on wedding dresses since thats all they do at DB.

I asked about this at my local bridal salon and they estimated $80 to remove the train from the dress I wanted. I think the time all depends the seamstress. Call around to other bridal salons and see if they can you you any referrals.
