Bridesmaids In White?

I have seen more & more bridesmaids in white. I always assumed only the bride could be in white but the last wedding I went to, bridesmaids were in white and I actually really liked the look and am considering it for my wedding. I think it would look better since I don't really have any real specific wedding colors or anything. Is this still looked down upon?

Re: Bridesmaids In White?

  • I also just went to a wedding where the bridesmaids were in white dresses. I REALLY liked it. I think it's definitely worth considering.

  • I think it's fine.   I read somewhere that in some cultures bridesmaids wear white as a way to trick the demons so they don't know who the bride is, so they can't steal her away from the groom.   Not sure if that's true though.

I think white would look awesome.  As a bridesmaid I would wear whatever you told me....but keep in mind that a white dress may be tough to re-wear.

  • It's still traditional in Europe and the UK for bridesmaids to wear white (and royal bridesmaids, like Kate's, are supposed to be little girls--having Pippa as MOH was a departure from tradition for her). Originally, bridesmaids were supposed to look as much like the bride as possible, the idea being that evil spirits or jealous men trying to harm or steal her would get the wrong girl.

Anyway, you can certainly choose white as easily as any other color, but as with any shade some girls may not be comfortable wearing it. I like the way I look in white--at least as long as it doesn't end up being see-through!--and would be thrilled you didn't choose something hideous like hot pink or bright orange... but not every woman feels the same, so check with your bridesmaids as Lucy suggested.

  • I love it.
  • I absolutely love it. I think it looks clean, classic, sophisticated and timeless. I wish I did it for my wedding, finding the "perfect" color dress was a pain! Good luck!

  • If I were a bridesmaid, I would not want to wear white.  White is extraordinarily difficult to wear.
  • I think it can be pulled off and look vey classy. Check with your girls though.

  • I'm thinking white sundresses, they can each pick out their own. I think sundresses are easy to pull off. :) Thanks, ladies!
  • I think it looks very elegant. It might look nice also to throw in just a splash of color, like a sash or something. Just a suggestion :)
