Brown Tuxes??? HELP!

So here's the deal... I have Truffle (dark choc brown with a plum undertone) as my bridesmaid dresses and when we went to pick out the guys' tuxes I had it in my mind that we were going with black tuxes with the truffle vest/tie/etc.. I have seen that before and it looks very classy to me! Anyway...the lady at the store pretty much told me I was crazy and that I should go with brown tuxes with the truffle accessories. Over about half hour she convinced myself, my fiance, his best man and his dad. And because I don't want to be bridezilla I told myself "It will be ok...just let it go" The tux itself is lighter than the truffle dresses and the shoes are 2 shades lighter than that! Im so afraid that when people look up to the alter that it will look like a sh*t storm!! Too much brown!! My fiance and I are going back and forth...we both think it will be too much brown but we also decided that we'd let the guys pick their tux style since he's wearing his Class A's to the wedding. I'm trying to tell myself it will be ok, but am I crazy?? Everyone tells me "It's my wedding do what I want" But I want someone to be gutsy and tell me it will look ridiculous! Has anyone seem the brown/brown combo before?? HELP!

  • Yeah, that sounds like a lot of brown to me. Did you already tell the guys that they would get to decide, though?

No I haven't seen the brown on brown combo. I'm kind of in your situation well sort of. My colors are chartreuse green and chocolate brown. If I am unable to find dresses in the right shade of green then I will go with chocolate dresses, if I do this I am going to change the Tuxedos from brown to black. Like you said that is a little too much brown. I say go back to your original idea.

  • I told them they'd be able to pick out the style...thinking all along we were going with Black. No one really has their heart set on it. The saleswoman told us "oh no it will be ok! You have your flowers and the white shirt. I just think with 2 different shades of brown that are too close to the same will just be too much! Now if i had coral or light blue or green dresses then the brown would look great, but I dont! haha

  • Ok, well, if no one really has their heart set on it, then I'd suggest black. Another option that could look really nice is khaki, but it does look a bit less formal.
  • I was in my cousins wedding last oct and we had brown dressess and the guys wore black tuxs with champagne colored vests...it looked really nice! Def not feeling the brown tuxs with brown dress....too much!
  • I usually hate black and brown together...and I'm an advocate of brown tuxes...but I do agree with PPs that brown dresses and tuxes together is just too much.
  • people do black dresses whith black tuxes how is it different? sounds fine to me.

I know a bride that had the men in brown tux's. I didn't think it looked very nice at all. They looked like UPS men Undecided
  • Our colors are a chocolate brown, green and ivory and we originally thought about brown tuxes. When we looked around we found most places had this one particular Calvin Cline brown tux which looked great on the model, but the way it was cut just wouldn't be flattering on the boys.

We ended up going with a black tux, dark brown vest, and black and brown striped tie, with the bouts being green. FI has a black tux, everything else ivory. I was originally not into the black/brown combo, but it looks really nice. The girls are wearing brown dress, btw.

  • I'm doing chocolate brown dresses with brown tuxes for the gus. I don't think it's going to be too much brown, but the guys will be wearing gold vests and ties and the girls have a gold sash on their dress. However, I think black tuxes with truffle will look great and the person at the shop should give you what you want and only give suggestions when you ask. It's your wedding, do what you want!
  • Our girls wore brown dresses. They guys wore black tuxes with black vests. I loved the way everyone looks in our pictures.

  • ew.
    brown dresses = pretty
    brown "tuxes" = tacky

go with your origional instinct and get the black tuxes.
use either black or "truffel" accessories.

    Ignore this woman's advice.

  • Thanks to everyone who posted! We switched to black tuxes with the truffle brown underneath. I feel so much better already!! :)
