David's Bridal

Looking for some info here...
Has anyone bought a dress from davidsbridal.com and had to/chose to return it?
If so did you have any issues with the return policy?

Has anyone purchased a dress in store and hated it when it came in?
If so how did you handle this?

Thanks  Ladies!!

Re: David's Bridal

  • I got my wedding dress at David's and it was totally fine, just needed to be taken in here and there.

My sister got a bridesmaid dress there and it did not fit her right at all, she ended up exchanging it for another dress.
  • David's has a really good return policy, in my experience.  They also keep a stock of already-made dresses (unlike some more expensive companies that are made-to-order) so you can usually get a replacement dress much more quickly on the off chance that the dress you ordered doesn't fit and can't be fixed with alterations.

  • I was engaged several years back and when planning my first wedding (which never took place) I purchased my gown at Davids Bridal and ABSOLUTELY HATED everything about the experience. The customer service was horrible, I felt so rushed when it came to choosing and trying on gowns, I was there for about fourty-five minutes and the associate was pushing me through as fast as she could because apparently she was "overbooked", when my gown finally came in (two weeks late) it was a size bigger then I had ordered. Despite the fact I had paperwork stating I ordered an size eight and not an ten DB was not helpful in the slightest when it came to them fixing THEIR MISTAKE! I had to have my attorney contact them just so they would exchange my gown for the right size. When I finally had my proper gown and was able to take it home, I tried it on several times and realized it was slightly different from the gown I had tried on in the store! There was beading missing from places in the bodice and on the train and the lace detailing was different. When I called the store to question them the girl practically hung up on me and after a several week long battle with customer service/corporate, I gave up and sold the gown on Craigslist for a couple hundred less then what i had paid for it. >: (

This time around I purchased my gown through an Demetrios salon in Macys, I don't think I could have had an better experience!

  • Well here is my dilema, of sorts, which is why i was asking.

I found a wedding dress i love online about a year ago, right after we got engaged(sort of mermaid style), it is $200 so literally what could i complain about. Because I didn't just want to order my dress online and wanted to try on some other types, etc.  I made an apt at my local davids bridal in december for my sept 2012 wedding. I made the apt in december because my maid of honor moved jan 1st and won't be back until the wedding and i wanted her to be there. we showed the lady the picture of the one i loved and she said they didnt have that exact one but she would find me similar ones. fine. after being rushed through 35 min apt we had it narrowed down to 3 and were trying to pick our top favorites etc. i said i still loved the one online the most.she said she wouldn't suggest it because if i order it online i cant return it. so if i order the wrong size, or just don't like it, its mine. obv this is a big risk and steered me away from the online dress. we all had the same fav of the in store ones so it seemed logical to go with everyones #1 pick(which is a ball gown) so fast forward to now, my $500 dress is paid for, has recently arrived, but  i have yet to pick it up from the store. So tonight im on davids bridal looking for cake toppers and toasting glasses, and in searching for a phone number to call them to ask about the toasing glasses, i come across there return policy which states i have 14 days from the day they ship the dress to me. totally do able, i get thet dress, try it on if its way tooo big, small or i just hate it, i ship it right back the same day. easy!

So im at a point of being upset and pissed beyond beleif at davids bridal. that lady just lied to me to get the sale because the one i loved was an online only she wouldn't make any money off that and i would have it shipped directly to me so they would have no control over where i go for alterations. and not to mention i spent $500 on a dress  i don't even really like, in place of $200 on a dress i love!

Of course im planning to raise some h**l at davids bridal i just wanted others opinions and expereinces to prepare me as best as possible. sorry this is so long!!
  • I had some issue with two different david's bridals but I did purchase a dress I loved.  I was told that they couldn't order the dress- I'd have to buy off the rack.  I was fine with that except I wanted something in writing telling me what the sales lady was saying (that they'd steam clean and fix the broken zipper/halter hook and eye).  She simply said to bring the reciept back closer to my wedding date (I bout a year out).  It seemed wierd but I purchased the dress and took it home with me.  After googling and reading some other brides expereinces with DB I contacted corporate through the website.  I was contacted immediately and everything was corrected (the corporate lady had contacted the store and the manager had ordered my dress for me before I had even called her back).  They were very apologetic but fixed my issues.  The problems I had at store #1 were horrifying and corporate was very nice about the whole situation.  Anyway, I say contact corporate before raising hell in store :)  That might be your best bet.

  • I bought a dress on davidsbridal.com, didn't like it, and returned it with no problems.
  • I thought all sales are final. My experience was pretty good I went during the week at 2 to try on dresses. I found 2 I like one I bought that day the other I put on layaway. I just went and cancelled the 2nd dress last week. But I have horror stories on Facebook about them!
  • I'm in a wedding in September and we got our bridesmaid dresses at DB. We went in to try some on and after trying on a bunch of bridesmaid dresses we happened to see a MOB in a gorgeous dress, tracked it down without help from our consultant(she was reallly nice but they were way overbooked and she kept disappearing for lengths of time). So we decided on the dress and she told us she would only be able to order it in 3 sizes and it would take something like 4-6 weeks to get in. One of the bridesmaids pulled out her iphone to check out their website, they had all of the sizes available and it would only take up to 10 days to receive it with free shipping. We ordered them online and got them less than a week later! Plus the dresses were final sale in store and online we would be able to return them within two weeks.

There seems to be a major disconnect between the store and online boutiques. It doesn't make any sense to me that it takes stores longer to get their dresses in and that there are dresses you can order online but not in store. You would think if anything they would make the ordering process easier in-store. Having said that, everything worked out well for us and if I ever needed to shop at DB again I would prob still try the dresses on in store if possible and then order online.

If you are still in love with the one online, maybe order it and if you absolutely love it on then try to get DB to return your other dress or sell it online? And if you don't love it then you can simply return it in the 14 day time period. Good luck!

  • I went into David's Bridal knowing what dress I wanted, (tried some others but still went back for the first) and they sold it to me right off the rack...which was handy (but it needed a dry-clean and steam, obviously).  I was told I could bring it back 'whenever' if I needed to return it. Their veils and other accessories are way too expensive, I didn't see a single veil under $200 while I was there.

Otherwise, the only issue I have with David's Bridal is that they signed me up for a ton of spam. I started getting tons of spam texts right after I went. :\

Did not buy there but went very early on to look at one of the Vera Wang White dresses. They require you to "register" your wedding with your e-mail address and phone number and then they sell the info to vendors and to Men's Wearhouse. Don't give them this information if you don't want to be bombarded with wedding related spam and phone calls.

I would advise against ordering a dress from DB online, unless you've seen and tried it on in the store. At least with the Vera Wang White ones, I found that the dresses in the store looked very different in person than they did on the models online. I'm not talking about fit. They seemed to be made out of completely different material than the dresses in the advertisements. The fabric was cheap looking and the construction of the dresses was often sloppy. I got the impression that the ones the models wear in the ads are made out of higher quality fabric than the ones they actually sell you.
  • If you purchase in store you cannot return items for a refund, you can exchange items but no refunds. If you purchase online you can return for any reason with 14 days of shipping date ( as stated in earlier post). I purchased my Vera gown online because they couldnt get my color choice in the store. My associate was very understanding and gave me her associate ID number so I could enter it when I purchased online. I went on a Saturday without an appointment and yes the associates were very busy but I was overall pleased with the amount of attention she gave and her knowledge. Like it was stated in an earlier post, some experiences are good some are not!
  • Thank you all!! I called the local store and explained the situation to one of the managers, she discussed the situation with another manager and they have agreed to return my dress for me. FYI they are only able to do this because my dress is still at the store and i have yet to pick it up(so they know its still perfectly new) I am so glad i kept forgetting to pick it up! It came in about 6 weeks ago and every time i was in town i forgot! So they will give me  a full refund, they cant give me the cash back because they dont keep that much cash but they will credit it right to my debit card which is the same!  They suggested that i order the online dress first, make sure after i get it i still love it, and want to go with it, because once i return the dress in store, it will go on the sales floor and if i decide to go with it, it might be gone and id have to reorder, wait etc.

I am so happy they were so nice to work with, i was so worried!! Already ordered the new dress it will be here monday!!!
  • My best friend returned a dress to David's Bridal 6 months after she bought it.  Yes, it was still brand new, but she'd had it that long.  It's a complicated story, but my point is David's absolutely does returns, no matter what their policy states...
