need help with groomsmen...

So we're trying to outfit our groomsmen. No tuxes, we're going the casual/semi formal route. the colors of the wedding are pink/ivory..

so we've picked out the pants, they are dark gray, and have a khaki feel to them. For the shirts, we've picked out a white base dress shirt with light pink and grey checkered design. they will also be wearing pink/blue bow ties.

now we're trying to decide what to do with tops, either going with a sweater vest or just a suit vest. 

What do you think? Your opinions are much appreciated! Also, another thing we are having a hard time with is decided the color of the top.. should it match the pants or should it be a lighter color?

I would do a standard suit vest in the same shade as the pants. Otherwise, it sounds like too much going on.

Yes, a solid vest sounds good.  Any more might border on clownish.  I think you have enough detail as it is now.

If your colours are Ivory, I'm assuming your dress is ivory too.  The rule of thumb I've always been told is the shirts should be the same.  Ivory shirts would probably be more cohesive.
