Shoe Height Help?

Like many brides now, I'm going for the bold colored shoe with my dress.  I had a satin pump style in mind and finally found the absolute PERFECT shoe, however it's just too high for me to wear!  I know so many brides who just suck it up, but knowing all the dancing I'll be doing (and how clumsy I can be), I just can't bring myself to wear more than a 2 3/4 inch heel.  I purchased the pair that was about 3.5 inches and brought them to a shoe maker who told me he could lower them.  Unfortunately, when I got them back they were BARELY lowered and still wayyyy to tall for me.  (Shoemaker said anymore would make them off balance.)   Does anyone know of any other procedure that a shoe maker could use to lower a heel any more??? I would really love to use this pair, if only they were about an inch lower!  Either that, or does anyone have any suggestions for a satin royal blue pump???  Thanks for any advice! :)

Re: Shoe Height Help?

  • Sorry, I don’t know of any other method to lower a heel but maybe you can have your shoes and dance all night as well.  Why not wear your perfect shoe in the ceremony and then change into a more comfortable shoe to do most of your dancing.  It’s just an idea.  JI know how hard it is to find a really awesome some with a low heel.  I’ve been looking for myself.  My fiancé is about my height so I don’t want a heel taller than 2in.  Jazz_light
  • Can you post a picture of what your current shoe looks like... maybe we can find something similar for you.

Don't rule out dyeable shoes... they come in all kinds of styles and price ranges.

I had that same height in dyeable. And I wore them for about 11 hours straight. I was barefoot by the reception, but thats ok.

I dont think I would go any farther with lowering your current pair.

ETA: my heel height was about 2 3/4.

  • I agree--if they're your dream shoes, you could always change out of them and into some flip-flops, flats, or cushy wedge-heels for the reception. You'll still get tons of pics with your shoes.
  • See if you can find another great pair with a shorter heel.  If not, wear the cute shoes when you can and then find some wedge heels or even wedge flip flops for dancing.  If you switch to flats your dress will be too short and unwieldy to dance in.
  • Thanks for all the advice!  I did think about getting another pair to change into, I just wish I could keep these ones because I LOVE them :)   I did also consider getting dyed shoes because there are a million comfortable dyable low-heeled shoes, but I get nervous that if there is the slightest bit of moisture, rain, dew, etc. that they will bleed onto the dress.   If anyone knows of a water proofing system that works for dyed shoes, let me know!   Here is a picture of the ones I love :)

p.s. If anyone else is looking for a particular shoe- let me know!  I've been browsing tons of websites so I may be able to help! :)

  • I wore a 4 inch heel for the ceremony, pictures, and our 1st dance and changed into something more comfortable for the reception when we were having dinner. If you're in love with the shoes and you feel comfortable in them, keep them and just make sure you have a back up at the reception in case your feet start to hurt.
  • Those shoes are super cute! I understand why you love them. I know David's Bridal actually has some dyeable low heel and wedge shoes. I was looking their for some this past weekend.

    GL!
  • I posted a similar question few days ago looking for a bright YELLOW low-heeled shoe (my soon-to-be husband is just about an inch taller than me so aside from being comfortable all night, I want to be his height and not tower over him).  In my search...and when I say "search" I have been looking on all kinds of websites...I found this site to be pretty helpful, however, the cutest shoes to me are still 3+ inches but I'm hopeful...

(I quickly did a search for royal blue...but play around with this site, you might find something).  In your searches did you happen to find anything yellow :)  GOOD LUCK!
  • Thanks a bunch!

Ashley-  I am in the same boat as you!  I think I check that page at least once a day hoping for something new :)   I love your bright yellow idea, esp. for summer!  Have you checked out Nina Shoes?

I know these say 'canary' so they might not be as bright as you'd like, but worth a look.   I will keep an eye out for you! Good luck!

  • Just change for the reception. I'm wearing heels for the wedding, and Converse for the reception!
