dress alteration question..

So my dress is already a corset back but it does also have a short zipper at the bottom as well. When it came in it was too small to zip but I didn't realize this as the sales girl just hiked it up a little over my hips and it zipped right up. It has ruching so I had no idea she had done this. When I took it to the seamstress I found out what had happened. Well I've got just over 2 months to go and I am about 3 inches from that zipper zipping..or I was when I went to the seamstress. I've really been working hard to lose it over this last month but its not budging. There isn't enough to let it out. Is it possible that we could just take the zipper out and extend the corsetted back all the way down? Of course I'd have her add in a privacy thing since it is on my butt...has anyone done this or heard of it? This is my dress on the designers site..http://venusbridal.com/bridals/venus-woman/VW8605

I think you could get a lot of reassurance if you take your gown back to the seamstress and let them look at it.  With two months to go you do have time for alterations, and I've seen them let out a dress for a bride who didn't anticipate to be, I think it was about five months, pregnant on her wedding day.  And when I tried on dresses I was advised that a zipper back can be altered to a corset back.  I purchased my gown off the rack and it was missing the modesty panel to go under the corset so the seamstress had to piece together a new panel and it looked fine, so I'm sure they could do something similar on your gown.  Get back to the seamstress ASAP and I'm sure they'll know just what to do!

Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.
  • The dress can be let out some but not enough. That's why I was wondering about just extending the corset and doing away with the zipper..

  • This would be a good question for your alterations person. She can tell you whether or not its possible to extend the corset and get rid of the zipper. It should be a pretty easy fix I would think, a seamstress would just have to make the loops and a modesty panel. But again, I think you might have to bring this up to your seamstress to get her best advice.
