Help! I can't decide on a size

So, I've chosen a dress! http://www.jlmcouture.com/Lazaro/Bridal/Spring/2010/Style-3018 I love it! The only thing is, I'm really torn about the sizing!

My measurements are: 31" bust, 24" waist
The sizes available are
Size 4: 32" bust, 23" waist
Size 6: 33" bust, 24" waist

I'm torn between choosing the size 4 and having the dress be too tight on my waist, or choosing the size 6 and having it be ok on my waist but 2 inches too big on the chest, I'm afraid that the alterations may change the dress' appearance.

What should I choose (plus the alterations are kind of expensive so I would like to keep them to a minumun)?

Please help!

Definitely the 6. You'd have to have the 4 taken in around your bust anyway, and it's too small for your waist. With the 6, you're just having the bust taken in a little more.

The way I see it you are going to need alterations...  I would think you might be able to lose an inch in your waist one way or another but your chest size is most likely not going to get bigger.. so you will have to go up or down w/ alterations one way or another.

IMHO I would say the smaller one would be ok b/c they can typically let a dress out a little bit and 1inch is not that major... and it would require less to be taken in on top which would decrease the chances of it changing the look of the dress.

I'd go with the 6. I think taking in the bust would be less drastic than altering the waist.

You do realize that a 24 inch waist is already pretty tiny right?
This is Victoria Beckham with a 23 inch waist:
    <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-394612/Health-fears-Victoria-reveals-23-inch-waist.html" rel="nofollow">http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-394612/Health-fears-Victoria-reveals-23-inch-waist.html</a>

My point being the OP doesn't have any weight to lose and certainly shouldn't try to take an inch off her already tiny body so that she can fit into a 4 instead of a 6. Like you said, she needs alterations anyway.

Get the 6. Letting out a dress is more dangerous than taking it in. Besides, I've heard a lot of stories of dresses arriving a little smaller than the measurements indicate.

i usend to work at a bridal store that had an alterationist. Always, always, always, order your largest measurement. i can not stress that enough, Where you are ordering form should be stressing this too. Yes while most dresses have an extra inch of fabric in the seams it is much easier to alter down than up. I have seen my alterationist take a size 12 dress down to a size 0 and it stayed perfect shape and look as it did originally.  It is harder to do this going up, though a good alterationist can.  You want to be comfortable and not worry about having your dress not fit, go with the 6!  remember formal always runs small so if you are usualy a 4 and don't like that you are a 6, a 6 is really a 4 and a 4 is really a 2 in bridal.

    Thank you so much ladies!

LOL Kristin, I hope I don't look as scary as Victoria Beckham! I definitely do not want to lose any weight or inches to fit into the dress, so I'll order a size 6 :)

I saw your picture in your profile - you definitely don't look scary. My only point was that you're already skinny and the suggestion to lose weight to fit into the smaller size was ridiculous.
