Help for my groom's attire!

So-we purchased a brown suit @ Men's Wearhouse right after Christmas and got a great deal.  It's always been a goal to buy a vest to go with it (so he doesn't have to wear the jacket all day in June) But now, we are running into trouble finding a place who sells Big & Tall vests. His shoulders are super wide/big and most department stores only carry up to a 3x (He needs bigger than that!)

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

  • Are there not any B&T stores in your area?  You may have to check around online; I know there's several B&T online retaliers you can buy from.

  • Honestly I would forgo the vest and just get him a tie that matches the rest of your wedding.  I personally hate seeing guys in vests without jackets...just looks weird to me, but that is my opinion.

  • Can you have one made?
  • I agree with Maggie.. i don't care for vests without jackets.. but that being said, I would  do what Deanozzi mentioned.
Go to a local seamstress and see what they think about making one. I think it wouldn't run too expensive since it's just a vest.
  • There are 2 ways to wear a vest with a suit: 1) the vest is literally cut from the same material as the suit and thus matches; or 2) an odd vest in a complementary but not matching color/pattern.

Trying to match color on a vest and suit made from different clothiers, or even the same clothier but different dye lots, is not advisable. The mismatch will be an eyesore.

    I'd advise 2 routes:

    1) He should skip the vest and wear the best-fitting shirt he can- preferably bespoke or made-to-measure. (Really, that's what I'd advise for any shirt in this setting.) That way, when the jacket comes off, he still has clean lines since his shirt fits perfectly.

    2) Have a bespoke or made-to-measure vest prepared in a complementary color. Depending on the shade of brown suit he's wearing, possibly a vest in grey would do. I would avoid too much contrast. If there are no local tailors who can prepare one for you, check online. (I'm a fan of www.indochino.com)

Of the two options, I prefer #1.
