Question about a Chapel length train..

So, my dress has a chapel length train.  I'm trying to save money on alterations and wondering if it would be an okay idea to just have the loop at the bottom reenforced and hold it around my wrist at the reception, rather than having it bustled?  Is anyone doing this or heard of anyone doing this and it being okay?

I know one person that did that... and within an hour, she was so irritated that she didn't have a bustle.  The dress got in the way of people hugging her, of her moving around, etc.

Yea...I figured that'd be the case.  Guess Ill suck it up and fork over the cash =/
