driving myself insane with BM dresses - help

I seriously think I have looked at a pic of every bridemaids dress that exists....

Both my BMs are in different countries so I have to order online - although i am comtemplating whether I should go and try some on so I know how they look on a non-model.

I am having such a hard time deciding color and style - we are having a destintation wedding so I am thinking chiffon so they are not sweating. We don't have official wedding colors - we are using mostly white/yellows and coral/pinks so any shade in the yellow/pink I am open to. I originally wanted one-sholder but I can't find any one sholders I like. Also the girls are busty so its probably not a good idea.

I am leaning towards this one: http://www.donna-morgan.com/donna/invt/57924sxehyp/&bklist=icat,4,shop,bridal_shop,view_all

although like the color of this one better but not sure about the band around the waist.

This is the one thing that I can't decide on!  Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

How many bm's are you having?

Maybe you could just tell them a length, material, and color and let them pick a dress that works for them?

ETA: If you aren't sure about what colors you want and aren't really having certain colors, maybe you could even let them pick what color they want.

  • something like these might work:

if your girls are thin but busty, then go for a dress that has some structure to it and a well-defined waist.  Something along the lines of this: http://www.morilee.com/bridesmaids/affairs/883

FWIW i went with Mori Lee 744 (which may be discontinued now).  my girls are tiny, but athletic build, and we all decided that straps would be good so that they dont have to worry about doing the "chicken wing" all night to keep pulling them up!

Don't worry about color. just pick something that coordinates with the wedding, but looks good on the girls.  As far as ordering from different countries - just make sure a bridal salon nearby carries the designer so that the girls can try it on.

worst case, you could have them all buy a little black (or grey?) dress in whatever style they want (you choose fabric and length), and that way the flowers will really stand out against their dresses..... and most BMs can wear that dress again =)
  • I felt the same way!  I think I spent 3 months alone just looking at dresses and not doing any other sort of planning.  I am in the same situation, 3 bridesmaids in 2 different states and I was in a third state.  Now I'm in Canada.  So I wanted something that was accessible to everyone (rather than I purchase it and send it to them), and something that was affordable.  I also wanted chiffon and I wanted a pretty specific color, which was probably my main limiting factor.  Surprisingly, I ended up getting the dresses at Target.

They have a line of bridesmaid dresses in a few different colors.  They're all under $80 I think, and have a few chiffon and a few off shoulder.  I went with the chiffon one shoulder with the rosettes.  The nice thing was that we could order one, try it on, and if it didn't fit, return it to the store and start over.  Or, order 2 at a time and figure out which size was best and then return the other one.  The sizing is a bit funky.  Plus I think the dresses also qualify for free shipping.  You'd have to check.  Not sure if this would work for you since I'm not sure which countries your bridesmaids are in, but you could always give it a shot.  Here's the main link:

With all that being said, if you end up going with one of your posted choices, I vote for the first one.  The bodice on the second one is strage looking.  Hope some of that helped!

  • one shoulders are actually better on busty brides than strapless because theres something for support

i really like the first one .. the second one probably would fit wierd if they are busty - i tend to have that problem with bands just under the chest area - the start of the band would be in like the middle of my chest

If you only have two girls I agree give them a color, length and fabric and let them choose their own.

  • Thanks for the posts - yep only 2 and I am buying them so easier if I do the ordering and I want them to match. I will pick one and rely on the open bar if they think they are terrible! :)
