Wearing my grandma's dress and trying to match wedding style/colors

HI!
I am brand new to this whole wedding planning thing and in need of help.  I am wearing my grandmother's wedding dress from the 1950's and getting married at the Cape Florida Lighthouse on Key Biscayne, Florida.  The lighthouse is black & white and my vision has always been for a classy, black and white wedding.  However, I have been reading lots of discussion boards and am wondering if I should have an accent color and if so, what would it be?  I would like to style the wedding around the classy style of my grandma's dress and how would I choose an accent color that would do that?  Silver?  Yellow?  Green?  Help!?!
--Wedding Date: Sunday, November 21st, 2010.  Morning ceremony and Sunday Brunch reception
--Dress: tea length, scoop neckline, and 3/4 length sleeves.  It is no longer white as the lace has yellowed with age but I am told it can be cleaned to an ivory/off-white again.
--Flowers: I do not care for roses and prefer hydrangeas and calla lillies but have googled they're not in season for late November weddings?

  • I'm doing black, white and green for my wedding.  I think yellow would also look great with black and white.

  • Thanks for the help!  I've seen photos of black, white, and green weddings and they look stunning.

    Good luck!
  • I am SO JEALOUS!  We tried to find my Grandma's dress for me to wear, but no one knows where it went.  It also would never fit because I am at least 4" taller and thicker than she was, but still.  I had one similar made by a local dressmaker.

I think absolutely any color goes with black and white.  If you want to avoid color, go with silver or gold, or heck, even both!  That adds some depth without overpowering.
