Black vs Gray Tuxedo - Need to decide by early next week!

I've been back and forth about this because the particular tuxedo I like (Calvin Klein Super 110's w/satin edge), my fiancee feels may be too light to wear with an ivory vest and necktie in the fall as well as too light to complement the burgundy vests and ties the groomsmen will wear to match the bridesmaids.  The wedding colors are burgundy and rust-orange, very autumn right...but what I and a tuxedo rental rep told her is that the light gray makes the color "pop" more than the black.  Black is classic but I consider my self more contemporary and haven't found a black tux I like as much as I like the CK.
My 1st question: Will the gray tuxedo be too light for the ivory vest and tie as well as for the burgundy color it will match with?
2nd: Will it be so wrong to wear what I like versus what she likes when it's our wedding and she's had the final say on pretty much everything else?
3rd: I'm having trouble finding shoes to match at any rental place.  Is it inconsiderate to make my groomsmen purchase gray dress shoes they'll probably only wear this one time?
As you can see, I've been thinking about this a lot and just want to come to a decision.  Please help!

  • I vote go with what you like. You are the one who is going to be wearing it. I think that the shoes don't need to be gray to match the suits; they can just be black dress shoes and will be fine. Plus, you won't be making your groomsmen buy shoes they will never wear again.

  • i say get what you want. however ive never seen a gray suit with gray shoes, don't you usually have black shoes with gray suits? either way, don't make the guys buy gray shoes, that's just silly.

  • I think either black or gray would look fine, though black might look sharper with the burgundy. But go with what you want. And no need to have gray shoes with gray tuxes.
  • Before I can safely vote, I'd need to know what color her dress is.  That could determine your shirt color.  But in terms of what color suit, I'd say wear what you feel comfortable in and like.  I'm letting my FI pick out what he wants to wear...it really is his day too and he should be just as comfortable in what he is wearing than I am in my dress.
  • I would think the black would help the burgundy and orange colors pop more...doesn't a gray tux just mute those color tones more? Calvin Klein carries a lot of great suits, so make sure you explore all their options...

Also think about how you will feel about the colored suits 20 years from now when you look back at all your photos... think you and your husband will still be content with the idea of grey suits? If the answer is yes, then go with what you like best.
