Bridesmaid dresses - DB lapis and plum

Hi everyone!
My wedding is 9/29/12 and I wanted to have my girls in a deep purple.  On the website, DB lapis looks perfect, but a lot of reviews say that it's more blue than purple in person.  Plum also looked nice, but I've seen rumors of it being discontinued.  Is anyone using lapis for their wedding?  If so, do you think it's more blue than purple?  What accent colors are you going with for it?

Re: Bridesmaid dresses - DB lapis and plum

  • I would go with plum. Lapis is more blue than purple, and plum is darker in person than it is online. (I wanted a dark/bright purple, very similar to what plum looks like online, and I ended up with Regency because plum was just too dark). I would double check with the store to make sure it's not being discontinued, but when I went over Christmas and was having the color debate, I heard no such rumors.

  • My MOH wore Lapis, it was definately purple.

I loved it and it worked great with our colors. But,I had every shade of purple their is in our wedding.

Maybe see if you can see it in person? Good Luck.

<div>Agreed with all of the above, and want to add that when I went to look at plum, they said that it was one of their most popular colors last year, so I bet you're safe from discontinuing for a while. </div>

  • I had the same problem.  Online lapis looked amazing and I got to the store and it was a grayish blue color!  If you want a pretty purple I would go with plum.  When I went into the store to look, they said nothing about plum being discontinued.  Another idea is to spend slightly more and go to Alfred Angelos, which is what I ended up doing.  I think the colors and the dress styles are prettier.

I disagree actually....I was kind of set on Alfred Angelo but my BMs wanted to check out DB and they ended up liking the styles much better.  It just depends on your girls' body types I think.  I'm pretty sure I'm going with lapis, in person the color is gorgeous and def. purple.  However, in the photo i took, the flash made the dress look kind of blue, so I'm forwarding the pic to my photog to make sure it won't happen with his equipment.  If he gives me the ok, I'm getting lapis!

I loved plum, too, the problem is that not all their dresses come in plum (at least that's what the salesgirl told me).  I actually liked plum a little more, but it wasn't available for the style we wanted.

  • My bridesmaids are wearing Plum. I was trying to find a deep eggplant kind of purple color, and this worked very well for me. I don't know about it being discontinued - when we were trying on dresses, the lady had to show me a swatch to show me the color. They didn't have any of the sample dresses in Plum (for the satin, anyway), and she said this was because the Plum was fairly new in the satin.

I would call DB and ask them about it being discontinued, because it sounds like Plum is the color you're looking for! Good luck!
  • I'm with kd.joseph. All 4 of my girls are wearing lapis and when they tried it on in store, when I got a sample swatch, AND now that they've all gotten their dresses they are definitely deep purple, which was exactly what I wanted. We took pictures and one of my bridesmaid's sent me a picture that was taken with her cell phone and in every one it looked deep purple. And like katehar01 said, almost all of their bridesmaid dresses come in lapis! Good Luck!
  • Lapis is a blue based purple, and Plum is a red based purple.

Plum is considered a 'special edition' colous, so it is around for this season, and was for the last as well, but there is no knowing about next season :/
  • My girls are wearing lapis, we haven't picked out a specific dress yet but a couple of my BM's and myself have gone to DB to look at it in person and we absolutely love it.  It is a rich dark purple, I don't particularly like the color on a cotton dress, but it looks amazing on shiny fabric.
  • I am having the same issue. Plum does not come in all the styles, so my bridesmaids had to go with lapis...Now my issue is trying to find the same shade of purple for my flowergirl dresses...My centerpieces will be all different shades of purple to incorporate the lapis, but i'm not sure if I can pull that off with the flowergirl dresses. This is the dress i want, but not sure if it will match.

  • I saw both at  Davids  they are similar. I ended up going with the plum.     Plum is not discontinued  alot of the dresses  can be ordered in the plum.  I ended  up telling my girls  to  pick a plum  satin floor length dress and the  have about  7  -8 options.   So they can  ea feel comfy in what they are wearing.  So far they all picked a different  dress.
  • My best friend is getting married 10-6-12... We have Lapis BM dresses, they are gorgeous, and definetly purple (they are a DEEP purple though). The colors are gorgeous....
  • I am needing a DB lapis dress size 6 in the organza style or the side drape with brooch. anyone have one for sale?
