dress disaster

Re: dress disaster

  • Hey-

I wasn't going to throw this in since you said money is a concern but since people are suggesting weight loss plans that cost some serious moola, here we go:

I got my dress from a website in China.  It is called Milanoo.com.  I typed in "cheap bridesmaids' dresses" and it came up.  One of my more affluent BMs went ahead and ordered a BM dress saying that if it was crappy she would just throw it out or give it to Goodwill.  It was only $45 so...

It came and it was gorgeous!  The color was much prettier than it looked on the site and it was incredibly well-made.  (Like nicer than anything at David's).  Then all the girls ordered them.

On a lark one day, I looked at the wedding dresses and I found one that was exactly what I wanted for $150.  I bought it and it was $165 total with shipping from China!  Now it was a touch big but for $150 it may be worth it to just buy a new dress.  It will make you stop freaking out and you won't pass out when you pick your kid up from losing 20lbs in 20days.  You will need to rush ship it, though.  Just another option,
  • something else most people don't know is...75% of the time we feel hungry after eating nomal meals and gettign our required calorie intake for teh day is we are thirsty not hungry. Drink plenty of water. If you are thinking that you shouldn't be hungry or it's a "craving" drink a big glass of water first. Also I know people might freak out about this but a good teething trick in milk bones. YES they are a dog bone YES it sounds gross, But nothing in it will hurt your child and they don't fall apart like normal teething biscuits. A friend of mine found this out by accident when her child grabbed a doggie treat and was gnawing on it. She freaked and after talking to her DR it was determined it was ok. Bonus he child had no more teething issues.

The others are probably right that you can loose the weight in six weeks if you really go for it.  If you really think you can't loose the weight in a healthy manner, I suggest searching for a cheap dress on e-bay, oncewed or one of the other wedding dress re-sale sites.  There are some lovely dresses on e-bay; some of them are slightly used, others are store samples of discontinued styles.  Also, try craigslist if you are in an area that has it.  Then you can deal locally and be sure of what you are getting.

    Good luck!

  • I've been using Medifast and it has had amazing results and is very healthy.  I lost 25 pounds in about 3.5 months.  In the first six weeks I'd lost about 15.  It averages 1-2 pounds a week, more or less depending on how much total weight your body has to lose.  Check it out!  It's definitely worth it, and it's incredibly easy to follow.  I hardly worked out at all.  While working out is very important for your cardio health, it's a lifesaver to not have to worry about a horribly busy schedule with a child and wedding planning.

Good luck!  I can't say enough about this plan!

[QUOTE]I liked the Jillian Michaels 30 day shread...i do it at night once my son is in bed....20 mins a day for 30 days and lose up to 20 lbs. all you need is the DVD(12 bucks at walmart) and a set of 2lb weights. On a side note when my son was teething....he calmed down a lot by eating a freeze pop...it cooled off his gums and he loved it. Good Luck.

I did some of Jillian's 30 day shred and it was intense, it really helped me to have a friend that wouldn't let me quit because it was an intense workout. Another idea that I love for exercise and stress relief is to take nightly walks if you live in a safe area. You can take your son with you for bonding time or go by yourself for a break.  The biggest thing that I am working on changing is for my stress response to exercise instead of eating.

Good luck! In six weeks I know you can do it!

An alternative to weight loss, if you are in a crunch, is having your dress altered so it's a corset back.  Maybe find a great seamstress to do this.  I had a zipper dress that I turned into a corset because I was afraid of weight gain and weight loss.  So I made it adjustable.  :)  Good luck!  You can lose weight in 6 weeks!  Atkins is a good diet and my doctor recommended it.  But you have to make sure you're doing this right and do your research. And if you do this right, you'll lose A POUND A DAY without working out!

  • i started drinking water. you're supposed to get 8, 8oz glasses of water a day, but nobody actually does that.  i tried it, and after running to the bathroom literally every 10 minutes, i dropped 15 pounds in 2 weeks.  your body holds onto water when you aren't drinking enough to save you from dehydration.  when it gets the hint that you are drinking enough water, it can let some of the water it is holding onto go.  i felt less bloated and the number on the scale went down, so i was happy! and it's easy!

  • If you don't like watching workouts on DVDs or Netflix (or want to mix it up), try looking on iTunes for workout podcasts. I download one called "Motion Traxx" and it helps me stay on pace while walking on the treadmill. There are several other types, some for walking/running, some for yoga or other exercises, and most are free.
  • I read a study recently that showed how just sleeping a couple extra hours every night significantly helps with weight loss, as weight gain is often related to lack of sleep. Getting more sleep may be near impossible with a baby to care for, but if there's any way, it might really supplement your diet and exercise routine.

I was having the same problem minus the child. Basically I cut carbs and sugar and lost about 5 lbs a week without exercise. 7lbs when I started to exercise, so it did just fall off. The first two or three days I was bummed about it but once I saw it working so quickly I quickly got over it and stuck with it. Then I didnt even crave the sugar or carbs so it was great. I would take a slice of meat, and slice of cheese with a piece of lettuce and roll it up for lunch every day. (you can have cheese because even thought the fat is there it is low in carbs) and I would have one sting cheese stick. Even though I shouldnt have sugar or carbs I did have two fruits a day. Usually an apple and orange. Fruit has simple sugars and are easily broken down. (not like breads and pastas) Good luck!
  • all of the posters have great ideas! :-D the south beach diet sounds amazing, lol. i might have to try that one myself.... ;) anyway, in addition to your diet and exercise, try getting some water pills for 2-4 weeks before the wedding. i used them once for a national pageant, and you wouldnt believe how ripped i was!!! be sure to follow the instructions, though, so you dont get sick.

my sissie gave her daughter ice while teething, and when she was sick AND teething (i hope hope hope this doesnt happen to you!!!), she gave her these fruit juice pops that were all-natural.... cool and soothing, with a little flavor to cheer the baby up, AND with electrolytes/vitamins from the juice. i think they are produced by a juice brand, and can be found in your local walmart.

    hope youre doing well! :)

[QUOTE]OK.... SO HOW FREAKED OUT ARE YOU REALLY??? IF YOU ARE SUPER FREAKED AND JUST HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE TO FIT IN YOUR DRESS... I HAVE THE ANSWER FOR YOU.  A LITTLE BACKGROUND: I TOO WENT THROUGH THE SAME EXACT THING! TEETHING KID AND ALL AND HERE IS WHAT I DID AND LOST 15LBS IN 2 WEEKS...NO JOKE! RAW GREEN LIQUID DIET!... YOU BLEND 3-4 GREEN VEGETABLES, ALONG WITH 2-3 PIECES OF FRUIT-THINK SWEET (BANANAS, STRAWBERRIES... THE SWEETER THE BETTER) WITH SOME WATER... SAY HELLO TO BREAKFAST BRIDE! YOU DRINK A WHOLE CUP OF IT AND EAT 2 EGG WHITES. THATS IT... NOTHING MORE. FOR LUNCH YOU MAKE YOURSELF ANOTHER BLEND AND EAT WITH IT 1/2CUP OF RICE AND 1/2OF CUP OF BEANS/LENTILS. DON'T EVEN THINK OF ADDING SALT, BUTTER, OR MARGARINE TO ANY OF THAT. FOR DINNER, ANOTHER BLEND AND NO FOOD WHATSOEVER. AT FIRST, YOU WILL BE MISERABLE! HUNGRY, HUNGRY... BUT IN 2-3 DAYS YOUR STOMACH WILL SHRINK AND YOU WONT BE AS HUNGRY. YOUR BODY WILL GET USE TO IT, PROMISE. YOU JUST HAVE TO MAKE IT PASS THE SUCKY PART.  THIS DIET FOR 2 WEEKS STRAIGHT ACCOMPANIED BY A DAILY 1 MILE RUN AND 10 MINUTE (WHILE SON NAPPED) WORKOUT VIDEO MADE ME LOSE 15LBS IN 2 WEEKS!  IF YOU'RE REALLY SERIOUS... I JUST GAVE YOU GOLD!

"HOW FREAKED OUT ARE YOU  REALLY?" For the low, low price of 29.95 we'll send the blender to blend all those veggies!!!! If you buy now we'll throw in another blender and 5 cucumbers!!! Call now!!!!
  • I feel your pain,  I went to pick up my dress last week and they ordered a size too small....eeek! Stress has definitely added weight! I wish you the best, and remember you CAN do it. The no eating after 9pm is great! Ice cubes are a great way to snack if needed with out calories or fat.
  • i need that one chick as my personal trainer ASAP!
  • I don't know if anyone has recommended this but bloat pills might help temporarily shed some water weight. Alfalfa supplements are supposed to be a natural diuretic. (My rings fit looser when I take them). This won't be a huge change but every little bit helps right?
And remember all the hard work and sacrificing will totally be worth it!!!
