My FH and I have different ideas of what is weird and sentimental. His father (who is very much alive and still married to my FH's mother) has never worn his wedding band, he worked in a factory where it was discouraged to wear them since fingers could get caught. My FH thought it would a great idea to have his father give him his ring, to use as our wedding band.
I understand using a band of someone who has passed, or if the person had since purchased an "upgrade" and you wanted to use their original wedding band. But I don't think it's right to take someone's ring that is still married, I feel that he should be wearing it. He's retired now and has no reason not to.
Ultimately, I talked to my FH and he explained how important it is to him and we agreed that he would take his fathers ring (both his parents think it's a great idea) but I still feel a little weird about it.
I'm thinking of getting it engraved with something personal to us, to make it somewhat of our own.
Am I crazy? Or is this odd to anyone else...
