How much did your wedding cost?

How many people were invited? If you could guess, how many went? Were different people invited to the ceremony than the supper/reception?

How many people were in your wedding party? How did you decide who got to be the maid of honor? bridesmaids? groomsmen? best man? Who paid for the dresses?

Re: How much did your wedding cost?

  • First-- Congratulations on your engagement! I see that you just joined on 6/30, so you're probably pretty newly engaged. Enjoy it!

As far as cost, I can answer most of your questions, though my wedding is not for another 2 months, so please note that they will be estimates.

Overall, we're looking at our wedding costing about $20,000. ($23,000 if you include the honeymoon).   Which, actually, is under the average for my hometown of Baltimore.

We invited 165 people to attend. From our list and the replies we've gotten so far, we expect about 135 to actually attend (or at least reply yes).  98% of the folks invited to the wedding, were also invited to the reception.  The only exception being children. We are having an evening wedding and reception, so unless the children were first cousins, siblings or in the party, they are not invited to the reception.

There are a total of 10 people in my party.  My MOH is my best friend from college, so it was sort of a no brainer. I have more than one sister and a SIL, and I'm equally as close with all of them, which is why they are not my MOH.  They are each BMs though. My last BM is a really good friend of mine. I had to decide between a few ladies I was close to, but ultimately went with the one I'd known longer, and still talked to on a regular basis.

Groomsmen was a different story for my party.  My fiance has two close friends, but they both live in different states and can't attend the wedding. So, he only has my two brothers as his groomsmen and no best man.

We then have two ring bearers (his nephews) and a flower girl (my cousin's daughter).

My BMs each paid of their dresses (or my mom, in the case of my younger sister). I did make sure that I looked at dresses in the price range that they all said that they were comfortable with. They all told me they were comfortable spending between 100-175, so the dress that we all picked out (they all came shopping) was $146.

    Hope this helps!

  • I'm a little late to the party here, oh well. My fiance and I are trying to spend $25,000, but it'll probably end up being closer to $30,000. This doesn't include the rings or honeymoon. We're inviting 65 people, but we're getting married on a plantation in Charleston, which is one of the most expensive places to get married.
  • Isn't it @buttercup1958 who does this now?
