Adding Style to a pre bought wedding dress

Is it possible to have some one add onto a wedding dress that I bought a while ago to make it more unique? It is a basic A line dress with some black trim on the top and train but I'm not that in love with it any more. Rather than going out and buying a new dress could I meet with some one and have them add some pazazz to it?
I live in the Chicago land area and if any one knows of any places that are able to do such things please let me know!!

Thanks!

  • I would ask on your local board for advice on seamstresses. You could do a really unique bustle with the skirt, play with the neckline, maybe bring in the silhouette to look more like a mermaid or fit-and flare.

But before you do that, consider less drastic changes, like adding a belt or brooch, or adding killer accessories. Without thinking about hair, makeup, jewelry, and so on, you may just not be getting the full effect!
  • Ditto opal. Since you mentioned it had black trim, I think you could pull of something fabulous and dramatic with a great brooch, belt, or even a bolero. Also, consider an ornate hairpiece or jewelry. If you use an elaborate accessory (or accessories) it's possible that the relative simplicity of the dress will actually be an asset.

  • Accessorizing is a GREAT way to change up the look of a dress, plus you'll put together a look that no one else will have.  Like PP said, talk to a seamstress to see if anything can be changed structurally about the dress first - that might affect the accessories you would want to go with.

    Have fun and good luck!

  • I had a bridezilla friend who pitched a fit until her mom hand sewed over a thousand beads/crystals all over her dress so yes, you can have emblishment added to your gown. Either sewn or glued on, a belt, a more fancy veil, etc.
