I did it, but wound up not wearing the dress I bought there because it had some fit issues that I didn't notice at the time.
I went at around 10 AM, after the huge rush was over, but it was still crowded. There was a fantastic selection in all sizes left at that point, and at all price points. They had everything from Mori Lee to Anne Barge, ranging from $250 to $800.
Some tips if you decide to go: -Take friends: there's tons to see, so it can be helpful to send friends out to look for gowns, trade for a gown you want, help you in and out of gowns, and stake out some space to save belongings and gowns you're thinking about.
-Inspect dresses carefully. Look for dirt, rips, damage to beading and lace. Be honest with yourself about whether a dress really fits or whether it can realistically be altered to fit you.
-Don't buy just because it's on sale. Buy a dress if you can't imagine yourself in anything else. Don't react to the high pressure situation by purchasing something you'll regret later. It may seem like a bargain, but if you wind up changing your mind and need a new dress...it's not.
-Wear clothes you can try on gowns in, but still be comfortable wearing in the open. There aren't really changing rooms. Your best bet might be to wear a swimsuit, or a really fitted tanktop and leggings.
