In Response to Re: I CANT BELIEVE IT!! : I agree in most cases, but I think there are times when common sense (and simple decency) trump etiquette. If a friend of mine attempted to invite my ex as her plus one, then I'd probably put my foot down; it would make FI uncomfortable in a way I'm not going to tell him to "just deal with" on his wedding day. A girl posted another scenario on E the other day: a guest's boyfriend had previously assaulted her MOH (or something similar; I don't remember the details). I know etiquette dictates that he gets an invite because you don't separate social units, blah blah blah ... but in all honesty, I'd tell her not to bring him. My FI (in the first situation) and MOH (in the second) come first. This may be an Unpopular Opinion.

I wanted to pipe in and say that you said that perfectly. Good call. It does entirely depend on situation also.
  • Well that makes sense :) I do feel a bit of an idiot for my initial reaction but just thinking how all the work we have put in to this day being great I wouln't want to have to put Fi through that.

Plus it was probably my fault you misunderstood because clearly my first post is a little hard to read

  • Ok I read your other post and yes, she's a B, but you still flew off the handle. If one of H's friends had wanted to invite his ex to our wedding and I reaction "OMG she's a biitch and I don't want her there and you're not invited!" they would think I'm an insecure crazy. Verses "I don't think Fi or I are comfortable having her there on our wedding day, given their very turbulent past."

    You see?

  • Yeh katie I really should have handled it better, I think it was the initial shock. I apologized, considering FI's friend wasn't the biggest fan of mine to start with I doubt he's forgiven me.
are you sure he wasn't joking? maybe this guy is just an asshole who wanted to get a reaction out of you and he obviously got it. if this is real, tell your FI to handle it, it's his friend and his ex, that falls in the "not your problem" category.

    Yup.

    Posted by abbiewebster
If she shows up, do you think you are going to have any time during your wedding day to spend with her? NO WAY, you'll be busy with your other relatives, friends, in-laws, DH etc!

Punctuation is your friend like others in this thread have mentioned.

This is NOT a blog. It is a message board. There is a difference.

And, grammar is always important, because the written word is all you have here to convey your message, and yourself to others.

She got plenty of compassion, unless you skipped that part.
