I mean to put it simply I was dating two guys, one of whom also had a girlfriend, who also had a boyfriend AND a girlfriend at the same time.I would have just happily called it that but it was one of those OMGILOVEYOU relationship where everything was really intense.  He identified with the poly philosophy big time.  Apparently this is huge out in Washington State.  I guess what made it different (for me anyway) was the rules.  Like none of us could just up and go out with a third person.

Fallin, I feel the same way about open relationships as I do about polyamory. But there do seem to be people in the world who claim it works for them and that they are happy and consider their relationships healthy.Maybe those people are just wired differently. The definition of a "happy" and "healthy" relationship is so subjective though too.

I think it could work if all parties involved are on good terms.  I would have been up for a relationship with the other girl but she had been burned badly by their last one so it wasn't on the table.  But yeah it's really easy for drama to occur ("it's my night damnit," etc).

ah, NQB, I think you were just dating two dudes, one of whom was a little too cool for school trying to be all poly.  Good choice on picking the other dude.  Better choice on marrying neither. Tasty--yeah, my friend Linda is wired differently I think.  She describes herself as "I'm a vegetarian. I'll never get married and I don't believe in children."  Her lifestyle works for her and her partner but I think it's b/c they both know they never want the traditional life.

Better choice on marrying neither.Yeah there's a lot of truth to that statement.  Poly guy is a bit of a nonconformist so part of me thinks he just liked being different.  He was excellent in the sack though.  I have met people in a tri or quad relationship before that are able to pull it off though.

Sounds like Poly Lite to me.  No swinging?  No orgies?  Then you're just dating more than one person.

I always though that's what poly was- openly dating more than one person in a non-casual, non-hookup way.
