Re: tasty and other food safety experts

  • yep, I would say it was fine if there is no off odor.  you are supposed to heat leftovers to 165F and that would dry it out a bit, but as long as its been under constant refridgeration, it should be fine. my doctor thought yesterday it was an extreme allergic reaction to a new herbal tea I've been drinking for the past 5 days so she is having me take claritin and pepcid (? not sure why on that one) daily and carry around an epi pen.  I started feeling good this morning, and now my tongue is all swollen again, there are nodules on both sides, and it's turning white.  I just put another call in to her office.  ARG.  I'm just frustrated.  but thanks for asking.

  • Eat the shrimp. Tasty--is it possible it's an allergc reaction to something else that you are still eating/taking?

  • thanks for the food wisdom. sorry you're not feeling much better.  I think ice cream is in order.

  • oh no tasty, i am so sorry!
  • actually, that sounds a little like thrush!
  • Tasty, they had me take pepcid when I was having my allergy issues too.  They explained why but I forgot. I hope you figure out what it is!

  • winged, that's what both my mom and I thought, thrush.  I'm not . . . um . . . yeasty anywhere else and I'm not on antibiotics (the only other time I've had thrush) but when I called my dr. and left a message on her VM I told her I was thinking thrushy thoughts.  LOLFallin, I have eaten/drank NOTHING new since yesterday morning, so if it is something besides the tea, I'm really scared.  that would mean I developed a sudden allergy and I'm in for a LOT of bloodwork, etc., to start ruling stuff out.  SUCKS.

  • The Pepcid makes you absorb the allergy meds better for some reason.  They did the same with me.Ugh, I hope you don't have to get prednisone or some other kind of steroid to make things calm down.  When I break out in hives, nothing else makes them go away except steroids.  It's no fun.

  • Maybe it's just taking the tea a while to get out of your system  Happy thoughts.
    image
  • maybe thrush is just another one of the reactions to whatever you ingested. I hope that they solve it and you get better soon. Also, I have had the nodules (not the white, but it was red) and it was an allergic reaction, so maybe this is just all part of the process.
  • Dude, Cali.  I HATE steroids and I was on them forever while they were testing me.  If I never have to take them again it will be too soon.  I had to wash my sheets every day from the night sweats.

  • thanks guys.  Calie, she called in a steriod yesteday too (medrol) but we are waiting for me to take it until we are sure I absolutely have to because it's a class B.

  • Crap. Hope you're feeling better soon Tasty.

  • I was on steroids once for an allergy that turned out to not even be an allergy. It was eczema, but I digress. They made me hungry all the time. I was nauseated and sick if I wasn't eating constantly. Plus, they gave me the rage. My poor H was a saint for putting up with me that week.
    image
  • Have you taken Claritin before? It makes me swell up and get horrible hexagonal hives all over my body.

    image

  • Plus, they gave me the rage.Steroids made me crazy. Actually crazy. My mind was racing. I sent Lorne 30 emails in like 10 minutes. I bought a bunch of clothes because I was concerned I didn't have enough warm weather San Diego clothes. (This was right before we moved.) I was really sick, but I couldn't stop running around the house.

  • I tok steroids for a week with no problems.
  • The steroids I was on made me hungry all the time and gave me insomnia.  The doctor warned me about the insomnia but not the hunger, so I just thought I was a giant pig when I'd eat my lunch and then go out and buy a second lunch.

  • They don't make me crazy, but my thoughts race and everything.  Add in the night sweats, the constant hunger, and the bitchiness and I hope I never have to take them again.  They definitely did the job though, and those shots work super fast.Tasty, did they take your pulse?  Was it elevated?

  • I have not previously taken Claritin, but the swelling issue predated the Claritin so it would be an awful coincidence if this is what is causing it this time.

It took two more trips for them to decide it was eczema and not an allergy.

  • my pulse was elevated, funny you should ask.  and right now I feel like my heart is racing. my doctor just called me and said I could come by any time; she'd like to see me.  I'm going to get this payroll submitted and then head on over. I've taken steriods for a couple different things before and I am usually just fine on them. it's crazy all these nuances with body chemistry, isn't it?  it's just fascinating to me.  if I was smarter and blood didn't make me pass out, I'd be a doctor.

  • my pulse was elevated, funny you should ask. and right now I feel like my heart is racing. That definitely sounds like an anaphylactic reaction, then.It sucks, I know.  Did you the cool video about how to use the epi pen?  I have a specific brand that has two doses just in case, so it may be a different type.

  • aw, I didn't get any cool video!  All she said was, do you think you could stick yourself?  I said, absolutely, especially if I was having issues breathing.  then I saw the size of the thing.  hole.  ee.  shiz.  but I'd still do it if I had to.  I do very well under pressure/life threatening sitch.
    image
  • I had a video and a practice pen too.  They made me and my H practice with it at the office.  I think it's a little more complicated than the regular ones, though, because you have to take the first needle out and reload it for the second dose.
