My Poor Dog

Re: My Poor Dog

  • I LOVE YOU Fitty!!!
  • eville, you animal lover, you came out of nowhere! Hm. So cali, what do you think the standard for breeding a dog should be? I'm not talking by law or anything (pipe dream) - just in your opinion.
    image Guess who?
  • So, everyone who breeds their dog one or more times is a backyard breeder?
    image
  • I must admit I don't have one.  I'm always aghast when I find out someone hasn't had their dog speutered.  I am stuck on people not breeding their dogs, period.  In a perfect world, I think we should only breed based on cuteness and wiggling abilities.

  • I hope your dog is okay. I also hope you'll make more informed decisions when selecting future pets.

  • I posted a definition above. Here it is again: a general term used to describe people who allow their dogs or horses to procreate regardless of physical, genetic, and/or emotional health And yes, you can breed your dog just once and be considered a backyard breeder. That's why they call them "backyard" - casual, uninformed, just for fun, aren't puppies cute kind of motivation.
    image Guess who?
  • backyard breeding dogs is stupid.  it's taxing on the mother's system and not getting spayed puts them at risk for all kinds of cancers and other issues.  you don't just breed a dog because you love it and would like to see her wittle wiggly puppies.  you want a puppy?  go to the f'ing pound and pick one out that some other irresponsible schmoe backyard bred.and don't bring your problems here for our replies and tell us to back the fuuuck off.  this is a public forum and the replies, duration, and intensity of them are our choice as participants.

  • I guess I don't get the term.  It's kind of vague.  Is it that she failed to spay after the litter?  Are you basing the assumption that she didn't care for the welfare of the dog on the fact she was going to breed again maybe and would not have researched that time either? Or is having puppies always bad for  the health of the dog? Can you ever let your pet breed or is that inherently wrong?  I'm just curious. I'd be happy if all dogs everywhere where stopped from procreating.

  • I think lots of people have expressed concern for your dog. Mostly because you are largely ignorant about how the choices you have made impact her health.

  • Sam squared, while I agree with what has been said so far in regards to breeding your dog, etc., I do believe you when you say you love your dogs.  I think you were just terribly uninformed, and hopefully now that you've been given some information from people with experience in this area, you'll make better decisions for the health of your animals.  Unfortunately I've only had one experience with a dog who had a sudden growth like the one you describe, and it was not a happy outcome.  He was only 3-4 years old when we found it- it started as a lump the size of a golf ball, and within a few days it was the size of a grapefruit.  It was cancer, and very aggressive.  I hope this isn't the case with your dog because it is heartbreaking to say the least.I hope for the most positive outcome possible for you.  If it turns out to be something minor, please have her fixed ASAP so that she can have the best quality of life for the rest of her years with you
  • Samtimes absolutely nothing about what you just said tells me that the term does not apply to you. Nothing. Do you know how many "professional breeders" churn out unhealthy dogs? A "good" breeder would never have bred your dog. Period. And I think eville already said your dog is not even a true breed. And right there, yes, that calls you into question as well the "professional" you worked with."Obviously" you are not going to breed her again? You are so gd ignorant that you didn't know this until a dozen or so internet people told you what an idiot you are. It also means your "professional breeder" is a moron for not telling you to get that dog spayed immediately.Get that dog spayed and stfu.
    image Guess who?
  • What was your motivation for breeding her the first time around?  And why would you do so without informing yourself on the subject?  No one is saying you don't love your dogs.  I'm sure you do.  I'm sure the lady whose dog attacked mine the other day loves her dog a whole lot too.  Being a dog lover is not the same as being a good dog owner.A lady I used to work with loved her dog more than anyone I know.  That dog was the center of her universe.  But she never got the dog spayed because she "couldn't afford it".  Then her dog got really sick and almost died because of it, so she ended up taking out a loan in order to pay for the medical care to try to save her dog.  Please spay your dog immediately so you don't have to go through the same trauma.

  • Why wouldn't a good breeder breed her? What was wrong back then? Yes- I did add german to the name. She is a shorthaired britney. I always throw german in there for some reason. Maybe it's because our friends have German pointers.
  • Well tell me something. What is a "good breeder" to you, samtimes? Describe one to me.
    image Guess who?
  • You are driving me crazy with the whole "I DON"T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT BREEDING!" This is your f-ing dog! She is your responsibility. You just let someone say "Oh we should breed her again" and just start going along with it without understanding the consequence? You should be the one who looks out for her. You're an idiot.
  • I'll let you answer my question first.
  • Yes, why did you breed her the first time? And why were you going to breed her again?
  • Listen: I am done arguing my point. I didn't come to ask if you thought I was a good dog owner. I know I am and I'm tired of debating it with you. Thank you for your opinions. I am done now.
  • Oh no you don't. I'm not the one who bred a dog and six years later has an intact dog, and I assure you I know lightyears more about the effects of shiitty breeding than you do (I have a foster dog right now who is the most pathetic example of it I have ever seen; incidentally she is being spayed today). Part of rescue or being involved in dog welfare and overpopulation issues is knowing what does and doesn't contribute to the problem. You are so fucking ignorant. You have no clue do you? You have no idea what a good breeder would and wouldn't do.
    image Guess who?
  • JUST GET YOUR POOR DOG SPAYED. LIKE, YESTERDAY.
    image Guess who?
  • Fine, stop arguing your point, but at least explain why you bred her the first go 'round.

  • Hey dipshiiit, there is still no such thing as a short haired brittany, so therefore you are still breeding mutts.I'll answer your question on why you shouldn't have bred her? Did you have her hips checked, eyes, how about heart??  Ohh you don't know?? THAT'S WHY YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN BREEDING HER!!!  You're ignorant and know nothing about dogs, that's why.
  • I'm ignorant and know nothing about dogs. All I know is the stuff I pick up here from threads like these. I had no idea that not spaying a dog could lead to all these health problems. However, I took my dog to the vet when I got her, and the vet said to spay her, so I had her spayed. I just generally do what my vet says I need to do. Easy! It would never have crossed my mind to breed my dog. That's just weird to me.

  • Samtimes, I am not a dog owner and pretty dognorant in the grand scheme of things but let me try to help:Everyone who ever owns a dog should always get their dogs spayed and neutered 110% of the time. The ONLY exception is if you are a serious professional breeder and you have some sort of education or license and/or do this as a job.The reason for this is that there are a billion homeless dogs in the world getting put to death in shelters or living in Fitty's some-say-too-fancy backyard doghouse, waiting for a responsible owner to give them a home.  So until the entire population of the US eliminates all morons who fail to get their animals fixed and the pet population ceases to grossly outnumber the open, loving, responsible pet-seeking homes, the two former rules must be followed.

  • sooo... going back.... if you didn't make any money off of her puppies the first time, what motivation could you possibly have to breed her again? i agree with your OP. your poor dog.

  • Way late to this post.  Eville and Fitty, I agree with you both 110%.  My parents were AKC/CKC (canada) certified breeders of labradors.   Our dogs were shown, and all puppies that were birthed out of our dogs were tattooed, registered etc.  We only bred to better the line and would check dogs pedigrees extensively before any breeding agreements were made.  All of our females would only have a max of two litters, and only up to age 4.  After that they would lead a happy life hunting, and rubs to the belly.SamX2.  YOu may love your dog, but you obviously know nothing.  You may have paid lots of $ from your dog, but you bought it from a puppy mill, and then let your dog become part of the mess that is contributing to the increase of shelters and puppy deaths a year.  Dogs, cost money.  You said that you treat them as your children, yet you don't even have pet insurance for them, nor have you done anything to prevent diseases, like getting her spayed.  I feel for your dog, and I hope that this cancer is not deadly.
