Snarky Brides

Lightning?

So, someone on the E board posted an article about this couple that was in the mountains and were struck by lightning.  Apparently, she loved nature and the mountains and he chose that particular spot to propose to her, but the lightning struck first.  The article says her last words were "Look at how beautiful it is."

It's awful and tragic and I can't fathom how much pain the boyfriend must be in, but I couldn't help but think that he should have checked the weather report.

Does that make me a bad person?

Re: Lightning?

  • Lightning storms can come up very quickly on mountaintops.  The weather report may not have been calling for any storms.  If it was...that's a different story.
  • I heard about this on my local news this morning. So sad.
  • Yeah cause weather reports are ALWAYS accurate and you can totally plan your life around them. Not so much. I do actually give you the side eye for suggesting it's his fault they got struck by lightning or that there was some way they could have avoided it. It's fucking lightning man, not all that predictable a phenomenon.

  • I know of someone who got struck by lightening while playing soccer when the weather was perfect. Freak lightning
  • I'm giving myself the side-eye Lauren so you might as well, too.

  • Yeah, checking a weather report may or may not have helped him.

But it definitely could have behooved him to abandon the proposal on the mountaintop when thunderheads were brewing up a lightning storm right above his head.

Could it have been avoided?  Perhaps.  Such a sad thing, though.  He was ready to spend the rest of his life with this woman, imagine the guilt he must feel.  Very, very tragic story.

In short, yes.  You're placing the blame on him for his GF being struck by lightning when there's really no way he could have known ahead of time that would happen.  Like PPs said, weather reports aren't always accurate and mountain top reports are even less accurate.

And betrothed, I'm disgusted with most of the comments that you have posted. I don't think I've ever read such judgmental comments in my life. I'm so lucky that the girls I speak to on theknot are nothing like you...I would've never come on here for ADVICE if I would've encountered a big a bitch as you. I genuinely feel awful for your children or your future children, and I think it would be irresponsible of YOU not to invest in their future therapy sessions starting now. Because trust me when I tell you honey, they're gonna need it. ~jcaruncho2010

  • I'm with Lauren. Lightening is extremely unpredictable. And do you know how many people actually die a year from lightening strikes? This is something very unusual. Who goes hiking thinking, "Gee, better watch out for the lightening." Poor couple.
