Sesh, I really admire anyone who can just create a whole new world or person that seems so real that it touches you or makes you think on a whole new level.  I have an idea for a book that I'd like to write one day, but so far it's just an idea.  When I think about where to begin, I get overwhelmed.  I think it takes enormous talent to truly be a writer.  Its more than just words; I think it's the creativity and vision that really makes a novel great.
    Posted by lindseyann410
I get overwhelmed too, so I just pick a starting place and go from there. I try not to think too much of the details, figuring they'll work themselves out along the way. And usually, they do.

So, horrible confession. A lot of other writers annoy me. I don't enjoy talking to a lot of them (I'm not talking about you, just in general). When I was at the book event last weekend, I talked to so many authors who said, "Oh, I just had this idea one day and figured I'd write a book. I figured it wouldn't be that hard, so now I'm just doing this (the event) to see how much money I can make."

God, that pisses me off so much. If you say that, then you don't deserve to be called an author. You're just a money-grubber. Even David Morrell said that people who write just to be rich and famous are the worst kind of writers out there. And it discredits people who do it because they love it. On the flip side, I love talking to people who are in it for the story. Like you said, creating the new world and taking readers on a journey into a different life.
  • My favourite part might be the 'regrets please call us'...um, yeah, no.
  • So my sister is in the Cape with her SIL.  Her SIL lives up the street from me.  She let her son stay home alone.  He is 17.  They just called and want me to drive by her house to make sure there isnt some monster party going on.

Ugh, I feel like such a rat, lol.  Would you do it?

I'd probably do it and then only rat them out if there were a lot of people there. Not if there was one unexpected car in the driveway. </div>

  • Blue, I would. But I get a kick out of busting irresponsible teens who think they can pull one over on people. Or adults, for that matter.
  • Wow, I can't imagine someone writing just for the money could actually write something worth reading!  I think a book without any heart or soul in it would just suck.

Honestly, I think anyone who gets into it for the money is kind of an idiot.  I know it can super hard to actually get published.  And when an unknown person finally does get published, they barely make a profit.  At least on the first book.

And I definitely don't consider myself to be much of a writer, so no offense taken.  It is a skill I'd like to work on though.

Well, I'm sure they could, but still. It annoys me. But there are a lot of crappy writers out there (she said hoping she's not one of them...).

Honestly, in today's time, it's actually more worthwhile to just self-publish. Even publishing companies don't do much for you anymore other than get you listed with major distributors, which you can do yourself if you know how. And because of that, people publish any and everything trying to make a quick buck.

But those who take it seriously, I like talking to them. They are my kind of writers.
  • So, Im pretty sure I just got busted.  They live on a cul de sac and I drove down it and did the circle. He was in his driveway with his buddy.  No party, just 2 cars, but they both turned around to look at my car.

Luckily the have a huge lawn with a bridge thing, so its not like he saw me, but they definitely turned around.

    Rat fail.

H gets so annoyed because I completely check out from reality, and it takes me awhile to readjust after I put a book down.

I do.  Im only getting rid of it because we are trying to have a kid.  Its too small for a stroller in the trunk area.  Plus, since we most likely are going to be doing IVF soon, and with my risk for multiples already, I need something bigger.

But since Im not pregnant yet, and we dont know whats going to happen, we are kind of in limbo on to what to get.

Its a great car though.  Gas is really good, it rides well, lots of room for non baby stuff.
