Re: AYG

  • Chels I've told you before to just let it roll off your back. If you keep whining about people not liking you that just makes people... not like you... even more.

But, I do like you. So you have one person in your corner, betch :)

PS, wtf kind of name is Katniss. Sounds like cat piss.

I agree that her friend has some issues that she needs to work out. But I also found it a little condescending that the OP felt to need to sit her friend down and explain that there is a possibility that she, as a married woman of child bearing age, could maybe possibly be pregnant in a year and a half. I get that she did it because she knows of her friends phobia, but OP wasn't even planning on TTC. I just had this picture in my head of the OP patting her friend on the head and saying "Now, Jane, you know that I'm married now, and I'm 27. H and I have sex, and sometimes, that results a baby, even if we didn't plan it!" and giving her a lollipop. I know she didn't mean it that way, but I just can't imagine that conversation NOT coming off as condescending on some level. Especially since if I read it right, it seems like the OP breached the subject first, not her friend.

  • Whatev, I actually don't dislike chels at all. I mean, I think she drives me crazy once in awhile, but so does Blue and Nebb and everyone else.

It's just the constant "NO ONE LIKES ME. I GET IT" crap that gets old.

  • I think this was said, but I flame everyone who kept up the conversation with laurtroll in the judge thread. But then again, I've never understood the appeal of that.

Nebb, I was going to judge you. But you already got flamed last week for it, and obviously didn't care ;)
  • In Response to Re:AYG:
You can't be pissed about repeated sexual harrassment i.e. cat calls unless you've told them to stop before. Seriously.nbsp; I mean, sure, be skeeved out by it. But, legally, don't you have to tell them to stop before you can actually file a harassment suit?I mean, the groping is obviously different. And I'm not saying it's ok for guys to be assholes in public to random women who walk by. But I'm also not going to feel bad for you if it's a repeated thing and you've never stood up for yourself. /asshole opinion. Posted by StephJ
Steph, I can see what you're saying, but did you get to the part of the thread where we were talking about the possible consequences of telling them off? I'd rather ignore them and hope they lose interest than provoke them. If we're talking about making myself a target, embarrassing and pissing off some guys with no selfcontrol or respect for women isn't a plan I feel comfortable with.
  • I even debated posting earlier in this thread that I would flame everyone if they turned AYG into another chels bashing session. But I truly thought by even mentioning it, it would snowball. Fuckballs, FFS. Obviously there is nothing that interesting happening on tk to talk about. We don't have to have AYG if there's nothing to have grievances over.

  • No way would I tell off a group of guys who were harassing me if I was alone. Men who think they have the right to treat women that way likely aren't going to take that well, and it's just not safe. Especially if you see them all the time. In my head I imagine them knowing that they get under your skin and taking it one step further each time you walk by. it's a lose-lose situation. Now, if there were lots of people around, different story.

I read once that it's not safe for women to wear their hair in ponytails because it's something easy for attackers gto grab onto. That scared the crap out of me because I always have my hair up. It's one thing that always stuck with me.
  • Koda, I think the issue was that Nebb originally said something more like "YA is garbage" not "I don't like YA." semantics, yes, but I can see why people were more upset about that.

I'm not a huge fan of romance or chick lit, it's no big deal.
    Posted by kodakitty
There are plenty of people here who don't like young adult fiction and have said as much on TK, but that doesn't make them an asshole.

What makes them an asshole is when they're all "I question the sanity and/or intelligence of anyone who reads Harry Potter/Twilight/Hunger Games/whatever" and rightly so. Because that is douchey. Not liking something omg, who cares.

Also, I've heard the ponytail thing too - but for real, if a guy wants to assault you, he's going to do it no matter what your hairstyle is. You can't live in that kind of fear that wearing certain clothes or how you style your hair makes you more susceptible to becoming a victim. I wear ponytails from time to time. But, I also exercise a lot and I can be hella loud. If a guy wants to get up in my shiit he's definitely going to pay the consequences.

Oh, I still wear my hair the way I want. It's just always been this annoying fear in the back of my mind. Because you're right, if someone is going to attack, your hair doesn't matter.

I don't exercise, so I'm incredibly weak. And I'm short/small. But, I fight dirty so I can guarantee my attacker isn't going to walk away without some injuries. Hopefully I never have to find out how I'd react in that situation.

Neither do I, FWIW. I never thought that. It just bugs me when people act like entire genres aren't even worth discussion or are somehow beneath what's considered "worthy." Like that huge debate on E where some were essentially saying that people who read YA aren't as smart as those who don't (I think this was more in relation to Twlight, but it was awhile ago so I don't remember all the details).

I don't like romance or horror-type books, but that doesn't mean they are garbage. They have their place and if people enjoy them, then that's all that matters. Who am I to act like it's stupid for them to like or want to talk about those books?

Depends on what side of the street the gutter is that has your mind.

Also sesh, I really hate that opinion too. Like people shouldn't read simple books because it does nothing for their intelligence. FFS, it's entertainment. There is a TON of stuff out there that can be consumed that does nothing to enrich anyone's life other than to waste time, but people do it because they enjoy it. So what, right? I think half of the TV shows I watch are a hell of a lot more judgworthy than the fucking Twilight books.
