A bicyclist hit me. While I was stopped. He just rammed into the side of my car. I completely understand how a deer could hit the side of a vehicle.

I think the main idea is to just not be breaking while it happens.

I dunno though. Most of the people I know who've hit a deer, have done so out on the highway.  So you usually see it far enough to actually break, but not enough time to come to a complete stop, you know?

ETA: unless you get one of those asshole idiot deer that just run into the side of your car, of course.

One time, a biker was pissed at me for, you know, driving on the road.  I honked at him, because he swerved into my lane (the bike lane was on the other side of the freaking road. It was a one-way.) At the red light on the next corner, he got off his bike, picked it up and slammed it into the side of my car.

I was just in shock. like "uh... wtf happened?!"  I parked, and there was a HUGE scuff along the side of my (BRAND new) car.  I called the cops on his ass, but nothing ended up happening.  I see him on campus every once in awhile now though, and I laugh.

Yeah. It's one of my go-to stories to tell when I'm making fun of my hometown.

The funny thing, though, is that it's maybe 25% of the town that's like that. Most of the people in town don't hunt at all or anything like that.

And there's a HUGE difference between texting and talking. Nowadays with phones, you can't text without both hands, whereas talking you have a hand (and your eyes!) free. Although back in the day when I had my razr, I could text one handed w/o looking.

<div>My hearing loss is uncommon. It's "precipitously sloping ".  What that means is I have mild hearing loss (30 dB) in the lowest frequency (250 K), then it "drops off" really quickly in the mid frequencies (1000 K) to 110+ dB.  But how you are classified is based on your Pure Tone Average of 500 K, 1000 K and 2000 K.  My PTA is 95, which is severe/profound. </div><div>
</div><div>Basically that means that I hear low frequencies (including some speech sounds such as vowels), but not mid-high frequencies (including most consonants).  So if you talk to me, I can tell that you're speaking.  It just sounds like Charlie Brown most of the time.  I do lipread really well, though I prefer to use ASL now when I can. </div>

<div>My whole ceremony was in ASL with voice interpreters.  Our officiant is the priest at Gallaudet, so he signs.  One of our readers is deaf and signed, the other is hearing and spoke.</div><div>
</div><div>Funny story - at the end of the ceremony, the priest announced us Dr. and Mrs David and Lauren Lastname.  Except the voice interpreter (who is a good friend of mine and has known me for years) accidentally said "Laura" instead of "Lauren".  H is hearing, so he noticed and started cracking up.  I had no idea what had happened until after the recessional when he explained it to me.  I thought i twas hilarious, but the interpreter felt so awful that he went straight to the liquor store across from the church and purchased about 10 of those little airplane bottles of random liquors.  He STILL feels bad about it, even though I still think it's funny and don't care at all. </div>
