What are you reading?

I am always looking for new books and have lots on my "to-read" list.  I love hearing what others are reading.

1: What are you reading?

2: Whats it about?

3: Would you recommend it?

Also, what do you guys think about doing a thread like this weekly?  Or am i the only book nerd?

1: Wicked

2: Its about the wicked witch of the west.

3: Its ok so far, im about 80 pages in.  It was a slow start, im hoping it gets better.

1: What are you reading? Two books right now (is it bad that I keep one book upstairs and one book downstairs and I read whichever I'm closest to?)
- Inheritance by Christopher Paolini, - The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood

2: Whats it about? Inheritance is the 4th book in a trilogy (yep) about dragons/dragon riders/battles for good against evil/coming of age etc., it's YA.  Eragon was the first in the series (it's also a movie) if you're familiar with that.
The Handmaid's Tale is set in the near future and is about a world where rights have been stripped from us, especially women, and all sorts of rules put in place to "protect" women, etc.
I'm terrible at summarizing books.

3: Would you recommend it? Yes and Yes.  They're very different, but I like both books so far.

Ok, so I just finished Breaking Dawn, then i'm going back to Twilight and working my way up. Going to start the Elegance of the Hedgehog and Hunger games very soon as well.  Then, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. But today, I'm reading this.... (embarassed to admit it, but please know that one of my students insisted that I read it).

1: What are you reading? Something Like Fate

2: Whats it about? Tagline reads: what if your soul mate is your best friend's boyfriend?--- and that's it.

3: Would you recommend it? Sure, to my students.

Also, what do you guys think about doing a thread like this weekly?  Or am i the only book nerd?

Wicked gets better.

Simply Fated

I loved Wicked! The book does get better, IMO. 1: What are you reading? I'm reading Ghostgirl: Lovesick. My bf's little sister recommended the series to me and it's actually pretty good. 2: Whats it about? It's about a shy girl who dies while trying to get the attention of a boy she likes. Now she had to go through the learning process of death. 3: Would you recommend it? Yeah, I'm really enjoying the series. Except for being dead, the character is really relatable.

2: Whats it about? Satanic cult resurfacing after years of seclusion.

3: Would you recommend it? Yes!  I believe there was a movie made too but I refused to watch it because I was in the middle of reading it.  I just finished today and it had me flipping through pages incredibly fast, it was intense.  I'm starting a new one tonight.

Also, what do you guys think about doing a thread like this weekly?  Or am i the only book nerd? I vote yes, let's do it.

I'm reading Interview with the Vampire...which is about an interview with a vampire.  LOL (I'm sure most people have seen the movie).

It's pretty good so far, I'm about halfway through.  I watched the movie first, but I'm pleasantly surprised to see how closely it follows the book.  I mean, I expected it too because Anne Rice wrote the screenplay too, but it fits a lot of the details in pretty well.

If you like vampire stories, then obviously I recommend it because Anne Rice is kind of the quintessential vampire story...no sparkling vampires anywhere!  LOL

They were all fantastic.

Wicked gets much better Blue.  I couldn't stick it out in the 2nd of the series though. 

I'm reading Sisterhood Everlasting right now.  I'm really enjoying it although it's probably a bit young for me.  It's 12 or so years after The Traveling Pants and one of the girls dies and the rest are left with instructions from her for certain things she needs/wants them to do. 

The Book Thief is by far one of the best books I've read in a while and highly recommend it for your To Read list.

I'm trying to read Sookie Stackhouse #1 on my Kindle. But the print is so small, and the zoom doesn't make it any better. It's taking me a while to get through a page.

Girlie, I cried through every page of Sisterhood Everlasting.  Too young for me or not, I love those girls.

I just finished reading Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, and I just picked up A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard.

I would recommned them both, althouth the Jaycee Dugard book is kind of heart wrenching to read, and it's written kind of from her perspective as an 11 year old, so there's some vocab/paragraph issues.

I would love if there was a book thread each week! I'm so picky about books and it takes me so long to find a book I truly want to read. This would help!

Im glad to hear it gets better!  I bought the Stepsisters one and the Lion one when I bought it so i will be upset if they all suck, lol.

I also have an insane amount of books.  If you guys see anything on my goodreads shelf that you want to borrow, let me know, ill send it to you.

Blue, I liked all of Maguire's books except the ones that are after Wicked in the Oz series.  So I didn't like Son of a Witch or Lion Among Men.  I liked Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, Matchless, Mirror Mirror, Lost.

Political intrigue, and building a cathedral in 12th century England. It sounds boring, but it's actually not at all.
3: Would you recommend it?
Yes! It was slow going in the beginning, but now I'm totally into it. There's also a sequel, World Without End, that was really good too.

I know they are such easy reads, but the Sookie Stackhouse books are some of my favorites.  I've read all of them at least twice already (since I bought them in July).  I'll probably re-read them all again before the new season starts in June.

There is a movie, I was watching it on Netflix a couple nights ago. Definitely read the book first, it's way better. Great story, though. He has another called "The Lost Symbol" that's really good. It's the same idea but it takes place in Washington DC and it's about the Masons. And of course The Da Vinci Code if you haven't read that yet - great book!

I was just thinking that - it is the one with the Illuminati.

And Girlie is right - it's not a Satanic cult, it's a group that was started by some of the smartest people of their day.

Same here.  I can read about 2 in a day when I'm rereading them (because I just skim throught the slower parts). 

I have all the seasons of True Blood on my Christmas list for H, so hopefully he gets them for me even though he doesn't want to (because he knows I'll try to make him watch it with me.)

I am.  Nebb got me to read the WHite Queen, and its a 3 book series called the COusins War or whatever.  ITs by Phillipa Gregory and I have loved all her books.

I'm reading the Flavia de Luce series by Alan Bradley. It's about an 11 year old girl in 1950s England who solves murders. Sounds weird, but it's good.

LC, I think I've told you this, but POTE is my all time favorite.

Pirate, I really, really liked The Handmaid's Tale.  As for me:

1. What are you reading?  The Ender's Game books by Orson Scott Card (Just finished the original quartet, about to start Ender's Shadow)

2. What's it about?  It's about a boy who gets shipped off to battle school at 5 years old because the government thinks he's going to be some kind of super-general, and they need him to lead an interstellar war against an alien race called "buggers."  Actually, it gets a lot more involved from there, but I'd wreck the books for anyone who hasn't read them if I went through it all.

3. Would you recommend it?  Yes, definitely - it has a "Hunger Games" feel to it (although it was written first, so I guess it would be more correct to say that the Hunger Games is similar to this), but it's got more sci-fi to it.  The books occasionally have pacing issues, but overall, the series is a compelling read so far.

White Oleander by Janet Fitch, about a teen who ends up in a series of foster homes after her mother goes to jail.  I've read it several times and I really like it.
