Morning!

My allergies were super bugging me lastnight and my eye got really itchy when I wasin bed reading so like an idiot I kept scratching at it. I finally put some visine in and went to bed. Wake up this morning and it is BRIGHT pink and I was convinced I had given myself pink eye or something. I freaked out, put more visine in and sorta tried flushing it in the shower. Ya its fine lol. I dont know why I freak out so fast over everything.

Re: Morning!

  • Nebb, I am like the worlds worst hypochondriac. I totally get it. Lol Morning. I got home from my meeting late and we got little accomplished. Sometimes I hate being involved with them. I have to work today and then come home and get ready for the inlaws all weekend. I do have my trial tomorrow so I'm looking forward to that.

So is memorial day a big "visit your family" weekend there? I keep seeing people talking a lot about having to see in laws. Sometimes im glad that in Canada our first long weekend is soley about drinking and maybe going to the cottage, NOT visiting family.
  • Morning!

Nebb- We don't do anything with our families for memorial day. I don't know if it's because we live far away but even in Virginia, we might go to dinner at his parents house but probably not. Our big family holidays are Thanksgiving, Christmas, and 4th of July. That's about it.

I'm so tried this morning but want to go on a walk soon. It must be hot outside already because our AC already kicked on. It usually doesn't until 10 or 10:30.

We are only visiting family because we have an OOT wedding and they live where it is being held. We are meeting with the pastor and I have my trial so we are going to stay with them all weekend. The family has some birthdays too so we will meet everyone over at the grandparents house. ETA: I agre with Hikes list but we also include Easter.

  • It's not a big family weekend for us. I'll probably just work from home and get some cleaning done. We were invited to a come-over-and-get wasted party and H mentioned a couple friends coming over to smoke some meats but I hope neither happens. I don't feel like being around people this weekend.
  • I cannot wait to sleep in tomorrow.
  • Morning!

Nebb - I spend way too much time with my family as it is.  So, my visit on Sunday will be in and out.  We do big 4th of July, Thanksgiving and Christmas, so I'm not too worried about skipping out to do friend-related stuff.

I am going to Philly tomorrow for the day to see friends.  So I'm excited about that.  And then Sunday and Monday I'm just sleeping in as much as possible, and then drinking.  :)

My boss told me I can leave today after lunch, but BF is stuck at work for the full 8 hours.  Since I know if I abandon him and metro home, he'll be stuck in traffic for hours, I'm sacrificing my sanity to hang around until he can leave.  Tick tock.

When I was 6, we moved cross country from my grandparents.  They flew out for a couple Christmases, and then we always spent summers there.  It wasn't the best situation, but we always talked to them.  They came out last May for my graduation from college, and stayed through my brother's HS graduation, and then they were here for the first time in years for Christmas.  It's not my favorite, but they've always stayed in touch.  I imagine with everyone using Skype now, keeping in touch for major holidays will be easier.

Nebb for us, drinking heavily and going to the cottage is exactly what Memorial Day is about. We just happen to do that with our family lol.

  • No family this year.  Ever since I moved out my parents have become incredibly cooler than me and always have plans/vacations.  Seriously, we NEVER did that when I was around ;)

I'm hoping to hit up the beach this weekend and get together with friends.  I think the neighbors are moving out this weekend so that means the unit will be ours very soon!  I cannot wait for a huge deck to grill on and have little plants.
  • Holidays are usually spent with my family since they are closer and H's is way up in PA. We drove up there for TG a couple years ago and I know the day will come soon when we go up there for Christmas. I don't know how I'll handle it, since I am very much a momma's girl and the thought of not being with my family makes me really sad. But I know it's not fair to H, so when we can afford it, we'll be with his family.

Part of the problem is that I'm particular about Christmas. We have our traditions and I'm very set in my ways, so I don't like changing things up and celebrating with other people (especially not knowing their own traditions).

  • We usually do Thanksgiving with H's family and Christmas with mine. I'm fine with that but now that Tim is on sea duty, who knows how our schedule will be.

  • Right now we still are pretty much split up on holidays.  Sometimes we do it together.  I know once we get married that will change, but right now splitting up works for us.  Also, because I have no relatives that live close to my parents I feel more compelled to spend time with them on holidays that are important to them.
  • Since we live close to my family we see them during holiday weeks and the go to the inlaws for the weekend. Depending on what day the holiday falls on determines who we spend it with. It works really well for us. We want to move to NWA where FI is from in a few years so we will just swap our schedule at that point.

  • Morning.  I have conflicting emotions about this weekend.  Stay safe at your gatherings and with your travels y'all.  Remember to watch for motorcycles.

We're staying home this weekend, not sure what our plan is other than gardening and cleaning the house.  H's birthday is Tuesday, so we'll probably go out to dinner and a movie or something over the weekend.
  • Morning!

Depends on where. Around here (WI and MN), a lot of people just grill out and drink. But people who have cabins and stuff always go up north, which usually means hanging out with extended family.  I think people see it as an easier weekend to travel because of the extra day?

I wish I had been around for that thread last night. And I now feel old because I remember everyone who was posted, and the reason most of them left. ha (FTR- OBX had it out with me a little, but Nates was the one that had the ridiculous badge. She didn't just use a quote from OBX, she had her name in in- I think. Something like 'OBX- TK POLICE"? right? But that was when Nates loved provoking trolls and stuff and then whining about them being mean to her.)

Anyway. We scheduled a BBQ for Sunday with friends. The forecast for thsi weekend? 70 today, 68 tomorrow, 95 on Sunday, and 75 on Monday. Seriously? Guess everyone will be hanging outside in the shade.

  • Thanks, Steph

I felt TK old for knowing everyone in that thread when I read it this morning too.  I also thought of some people who weren't posted/before they were mentioned.
  • I think I knew most of the names in the thread, although I didn't interact with a lot of them. I'm a bad Tker though because I usually don't even notice when people are gone. But that's probably because the ones I like or know, I'm friends with on FB so it's not like they totally disappeared.
  • Good morning everyone! I tend to lurk on this board and not post often, but I'd like to change that.

I'm hoping I get to leave work early today.  There's barely anyone here and it would be nice to be able to run my errands early today.  FI is going on a man-venture tomorrow (he gets to learn "extreme driving skills" and do SWAT team shooting exercises) and I am looking forward to having the day to do whatever I want, which doesnt happen often.  And I'm going to try making pulled pork for the first time, so hopefully that works out.

  • Button, what your FI is doing sounds incredibly fun!  I was nervous the first time I made pulled-pork (well, it was actually pulled chicken) and I must say it turned out pretty darn good.  I'm sure it will be fine :)

Tell me about this wine party, jcb

And ETA: yes, OBX mods the OBX board
  • I'm thinking about skipping my lunch and telling my boss I'm leaving an hour early. She's in meetings from noon on, so I'd probably actually leave at like 1 or 2. I should feel bad, but I don't. Because I know I'll be working from home off and on all weekend.
  • Did someone say wine?

  • Not really JCB. I don't really mind OBX anymore, probably because I don't see her much. She's on CC or WP right? One of the other national boards.

And I think Lucy is annoying, Dot. But only because she has a picture in her sig of her H's underwear. That's all I can notice now. (unless she's changed it yet)

It was a LivingSocial thing I found- its a 12.5 event and includes the transportation and a barbeque dinner afterwards.  They are doing it at a military training center.  When I got the email I knew it was perfect for a birthday present.  It was a little outside of my budget (and his birthday isnt for another month) but it is probably the happiest he has ever been with a gift I've given him.

  • good morning!

I'm so incredibly excited that it's almost the weekend. Originally my plans were to hang out at home and get some major cleaning and organizing done. Plans changed, we are now heading down to Cumberland for the weekend (after we stop for a very important breakfast on the way down).

So Wisconsin people, any of ya'll gonna be around and want to gtg July 7th or 8th? I'll be up there in St. Germain, but maybe there's some middle point?
